beats laying on the beach by MrBill If you are anything like me, I can take a few days of lying on the beach and reading a good book with a few swims in-between so that I feel like I have done something before the cocktail hour rolls around in mid-afternoon. However, if you are getting a little stir crazy lying there doing little else, there are many water sports activities up and down the beach. Take your choice from water skiing & wake boarding, tubing, hang gliding behind the motor boat, jet skis and sea kayaking amoung others.
Prices start at CYP 3-4 per 15-minutes, half-hour, per hour depending on which activity you choose. Water skiing for example costs CYP 20 per 15-minutes, but CYP 3 will rent you a kayak for an hour. Sea doos are somewhere in between. The best time to waterski or wake board is early in the morning between 09.30-10.30 when the water is calm. In the afternoons there is usually an offshore breeze and bigger waves. This ruins it for waterskiing, but is ideal for jet skis. If you choose the jet ski please stay away from the marked swimming areas. They are loud and annoying to those that are enjoying the quiet of the beach, and they are dangerous in and around swimmers. Sample prices from DAsoudi Beach Water Sports paragliding CYP 15-25/ride jet ski CYP 15-20/15 mins. self-drive motor boat CYP 35/30 mins. water ski CYP 20/15 mins. ringo CYP 7/15 mins banana CYP 4/person/15 mins. pedal boat CYP 7/60 mins. canoe CYP 3/60 mins. wind surfing CYP 8-15/60 mins. 1 CYP = $2.26 Leave a Comment

going my way? by MrBill Road Bikes Late winter (February/March) and Spring is the time of year when many teams and individuals flock to Cyprus for a little pre-season training before the road racing season gets underway in N. Europe. The climate is perfect for training right now. The temperatures during the day are a mild 15-20 degrees Celsius and the humidity is low. There is a lot of wind at the moment, especially along the coast, but for road racers this should not be a problem. For flat training, I would suggest the old highway between Larnaca and Limassol (70km) and between Limassol and Pafos (70 km). You have to beware of the sharp shoulders and not always so patient drivers. Also, I have not seen many bike shops in Cyprus, so you cannot assume you can get any part at anytime if you need it. Therefore, it may be smart to make sure you either locate a good store (I will post details if I see one) or bring extra gear for repairs. Also, stores are closed on Wednesday afternoons and Sundays, so even if you know where a store is you should check opening hours. For hill training you can take the road from Limassol up to the Troodos Mountains. There are also hills between Nicosia and the Troodos. Even more than along the coastal roads, cyclists have to wary of crazy drivers on the windy roads in the mountains.
Mountain Bikes Cyprus is perfect for mountain biking. There are many small, medium and large hills as well as the Troodos Mountains. Also, there are open pit mines and gravel pits for jumping and doing other foolish stuff if that is what you're into. Basically, as you fly over the island and look down, there is a road or at least a goat path to the top of almost every hill in Cyprus to test your mettle on. There are also a lot of smaller, secondary roads for cycling. You will find towns and villages every few kilometers so you don't have to worry about provisions or finding a place to stop. The overall distances are not too great between the major towns either. The entire island is about (about) 150 kms long and about 75 kms wide. There are 628 kms of coast. It is about (about) 50-70 kms from one major city to another (i.e. Pafos, Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia or Agio Napa). Leave a Comment

by navaros The Troodos mountains 1952 meters abouve sea level covers an area of 30 by 80 km, and provide endless scope for exploration by car and foot. The pine forests are paradise of flowers and birds. It is easy and to reach from all cities. In winter you can ski the snows of Olympus and in summer hiking and playing tennis. I was there in February, and snow hights was excellent for ski. We enjoy hot tea and a toast in the neare hotel. Such a treat!!! Leave a Comment Theme: Hiking
