Cyprus is a natural mountain-biking place offering opportunities for exciting mountain biking in different tracks, and I believe it is a paradise for sport’s fans.
The excellent weather condition makes this possible throughout the year.
Facilities for renting bicycles are available in all towns and seaside resorts. Traffic in Cyprus moves on the LEFT hand-side of the road.
The Cyprus Cycling Foundation organizes contests in spring and autumn, in which everyone can participate. The C.C.F’s annual activities programme is available from the Federation’s Office at the end of January.
The CCF organizes local and international races for Road Racing and Mountain biking.

The best sandy beach I found next to the chapel of Holy Thekla,in a distance of about 4km west of Agia Napa. There at the beach you will find a large carpark and a few restaurants and other facilities, this beach was the best that I could see from the road, the other great beaches - if there are any - might be next to the large hotels along the coastline, but I cant say anything about them.
Equipment: They had toilets there , changing rooms and some restaurants.
Birdwatching is very popular on the island throughout the year.
The migratory birds come to the island from spring till autumn.
Contact the Birdlife Cyprus centre for more information.
The Lakes of Larnaka and Akrotiri are filled with thousands of these birds, among others are the flamingoes. Some migratory ducks fly to Cyprus in December.
By December there are coots, ringed plovers, lapwings, sea gulls and sandpipers.
Equipment: Every month the Birdlife Cyprus organizes field meetings for bird ringing.
Late winter (February/March) and Spring is the time of year when many teams and individuals flock to Cyprus for a little pre-season training before the road racing season gets underway in N. Europe.
The climate is perfect for training right now. The temperatures during the day are a mild 15-20 degrees Celsius and the humidity is low. There is a lot of wind at the moment, especially along the coast, but for road racers this should not be a problem.
For flat training, I would suggest the old highway between Larnaca and Limassol (70km) and between Limassol and Pafos (70 km). You have to beware of the sharp shoulders and not always so patient drivers.
Also, I have not seen many bike shops in Cyprus, so you cannot assume you can get any part at anytime if you need it. Therefore, it may be smart to make sure you either locate a good store (I will post details if I see one) or bring extra gear for repairs. Also, stores are closed on Wednesday afternoons and Sundays, so even if you know where a store is you should check opening hours.
For hill training you can take the road from Limassol up to the Troodos Mountains. There are also hills between Nicosia and the Troodos. Even more than along the coastal roads, cyclists have to wary of crazy drivers on the windy roads in the mountains.
Equipment: Mountain Bikes
Cyprus is perfect for mountain biking. There are many small, medium and large hills as well as the Troodos Mountains. Also, there are open pit mines and gravel pits for jumping and doing other foolish stuff if that is what you're into. Basically, as you fly over the island and look down, there is a road or at least a goat path to the top of almost every hill in Cyprus to test your mettle on. There are also a lot of smaller, secondary roads for cycling.
You will find towns and villages every few kilometers so you don't have to worry about provisions or finding a place to stop.
The overall distances are not too great between the major towns either. The entire island is about (about) 150 kms long and about 75 kms wide. There are 628 kms of coast. It is about (about) 50-70 kms from one major city to another (i.e. Pafos, Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia or Agio Napa).
If scuba diving is your passion join the Divers club in Larnaca.
Alpha Divers (Cyprus Scuba Diving) operate in Larnaca just minutes from the famous Zenobia Ferry Wreck.
Equipment: I suggest that people who are interested can first make a call and ask any possible queries they might have.
There is a waterpark in Fasouri for couples with children. The transfer from Paphos to Larnaka is included in the ticket.
Find more information from the site I give below as there are shuttles from every big city during summer.
If you love nature so much like myself, then I am sure Cyprus will inspire you.
From rugged coasts to mountain peaks, sunny vineyards to cool pine forests, flat expanses of wheat fields to lush citrus orchards, the changing landscape within short distances offes endless opportunities for the artist and photographer in you.
This is exactly what I did on this recent trip I had. It was November and the colours of nature so rich. In every step I wanted to take a photo. Just magic.
I visited Cyprus on November 9th – 20th. The weather was like summer.
People were swimming and many sunbathing. It was the first time I took with me clothes that I could not wear. (27 degrees celcius)
So, the climate of Cyprus is exceptional even in winter. Sunshine is practically guaranteed and not just in the summer. As a year round destination, each season has its special allure.
Spring, like an impressionist painting, will delight you with its profusion of colour. Autumn is pleasant with its lack of crowds, while the mild winter, when everything turns green, is ideal for hiking and cycling, for taking in the culture, or for long-stay visitors.
I did a lot of walking and taking photos this time, and trying to mix up with locals and experience the Cypriot Authentic open-hearted people.

A samll ground, only 23,300 seats. Built in 1999. Home ground to Apoel Nicosia & Omonoia Nicosia.
A short coach ride from the hotel. It was a pity that nobody had bothered to build anything else in the surrounding area, apart from the open sewer.
Beers had to be bought by the Welsh at the local 5-a-side football courts. This was the first time I could remember that Lee's usual bottle of vodka would have come in handy.
Also there were too many UK holiday makers to make anything resembling an atmosphere at the game.
If you are anything like me, I can take a few days of lying on the beach and reading a good book with a few swims in-between so that I feel like I have done something before the cocktail hour rolls around in mid-afternoon. However, if you are getting a little stir crazy lying there doing little else, there are many water sports activities up and down the beach.
Take your choice from water skiing & wake boarding, tubing, hang gliding behind the motor boat, jet skis and sea kayaking amoung others.
Equipment: Prices start at CYP 3-4 per 15-minutes, half-hour, per hour depending on which activity you choose. Water skiing for example costs CYP 20 per 15-minutes, but CYP 3 will rent you a kayak for an hour. Sea doos are somewhere in between.
The best time to waterski or wake board is early in the morning between 09.30-10.30 when the water is calm. In the afternoons there is usually an offshore breeze and bigger waves. This ruins it for waterskiing, but is ideal for jet skis.
If you choose the jet ski please stay away from the marked swimming areas. They are loud and annoying to those that are enjoying the quiet of the beach, and they are dangerous in and around swimmers.
