The Cyprus Cycling Federation

by greekcypriot

Cyprus is a natural mountain-biking place offering opportunities for exciting mountain biking in different tracks, and I believe it is a paradise for sport’s fans. The excellent weather condition makes this possible throughout the year.Facilities for renting bicycles are available in all towns and seaside resorts. Traffic in Cyprus moves on the LEFT hand-side of the road. The Cyprus Cycling Foundation organizes contests in spring and autumn, in which everyone can participate. The C.C.F’s annual activities programme is available from the Federation’s Office at the end of January. The CCF organizes local and international races for Road Racing and Mountain biking. The Cyprus Cycling Federation:P.O. Great beaches

by globetrott

The best sandy beach I found next to the chapel of Holy Thekla,in a distance of about 4km west of Agia Napa. There at the beach you will find a large carpark and a few restaurants and other facilities, this beach was the best that I could see from the road, the other great beaches - if there are any - might be next to the large hotels along the coastline, but I cant say anything about them. They had toilets there , changing rooms and some restaurants.

Birdwatching / Ornithology

by greekcypriot

Birdwatching is very popular on the island throughout the year. The migratory birds come to the island from spring till autumn.Contact the Birdlife Cyprus centre for more information. The Lakes of Larnaka and Akrotiri are filled with thousands of these birds, among others are the flamingoes. Some migratory ducks fly to Cyprus in December.By December there are coots, ringed plovers, lapwings, sea gulls and sandpipers. Every month the Birdlife Cyprus organizes field meetings for bird ringing.

ideal cyclist training ground

by MrBill

Road Bikes Late winter (February/March) and Spring is the time of year when many teams and individuals flock to Cyprus for a little pre-season training before the road racing season gets underway in N. Europe. The climate is perfect for training right now. The temperatures during the day are a mild 15-20 degrees Celsius and the humidity is low. There is a lot of wind at the moment, especially along the coast, but for road racers this should not be a problem. For flat training, I would suggest the old highway between Larnaca and Limassol (70km) and between Limassol and Pafos (70 km). You have to beware of the sharp shoulders and not always so patient drivers. Also, I have not seen many bike shops in Cyprus, so you cannot assume you can get any part at anytime if you need it. Therefore, it may be smart to make sure you either locate a good store (I will post details if I see one) or bring...

If you are a Nature Lover....!

by greekcypriot

If you love nature so much like myself, then I am sure Cyprus will inspire you. From rugged coasts to mountain peaks, sunny vineyards to cool pine forests, flat expanses of wheat fields to lush citrus orchards, the changing landscape within short distances offes endless opportunities for the artist and photographer in you. This is exactly what I did on this recent trip I had. It was November and the colours of nature so rich. In every step I wanted to take a photo. Just magic.

November and Still out on the Beach!

by greekcypriot

I visited Cyprus on November 9th – 20th. The weather was like summer.People were swimming and many sunbathing. It was the first time I took with me clothes that I could not wear. (27 degrees celcius)So, the climate of Cyprus is exceptional even in winter. Sunshine is practically guaranteed and not just in the summer. As a year round destination, each season has its special allure. Spring, like an impressionist painting, will delight you with its profusion of colour. Autumn is pleasant with its lack of crowds, while the mild winter, when everything turns green, is ideal for hiking and cycling, for taking in the culture, or for long-stay visitors.I did a lot of walking and taking photos this time, and trying to mix up with locals and experience the Cypriot Authentic open-hearted people.
