Mum at Aphrodites Rock Beach by rachel_sun The Legend of Aphrodite's Rock comes from the following story.People say that Aphrodite(ancient patron goddess of Cyprus) came out of the sea here in a wave.People come here also to watch the amazing sunsets. After we had spent around 10 minutes admiring the wonderful scenery we went back to the car and drove alittle further. After about 1.5 km East we saw a viewpoint so we decided to pull over. The carpark was on the right hand side right on the cliff. There was an icecream cart here too.The view was superb. You could see right along the coast down to the Rock. The colour of the sea was greeny blue.Think the limey rock caused this. This is a must see as the views and the photo opertunities are excellent.I have never seen such a stunning view.As the cliff was very high you could look down on the dramatic coastline and get the best view ever. There was also a beautiful refrshing breeze. We then enjoyed an icecream and a cold drink from the icecream cart.I think this part of Cyprus had the most amazing coastline and will go back here next time I return.Next time I will make a picnic up and walk along the beautiful beach and enjoy this amazing location. Mum at Amphitheater near Mosaics. by rachel_sun This is what the huge archaelogical site on the western part of Kato Paphos is called.Nea Pafos is an ancient city which was built around 4th century BC.The city was once surrounded by huge walls .An eathquake eventually bought the city into decline. This vast area houses several things worth seeing including The Mosaics. This area is still going under excavation as people believe there are still wonderful things to be found and discovered. The picture here shows the Odeion. This used to be the heart of the vast complex. We walked here while looking at the mosaics while my nanny rested under some trees. This semi-circle theatre was restored in 1970.It looked in very good condition. The Agora, which Odeion is part of also has marble pillars in a rectangle shape in a big open space. The Asklipieion which runs east to west on the south side of the Odeion was once a healing centre and and altar for Asklepios. The god of medicine. This place was worth walking to and seeing. You could spend about half a day here but we did not as my nanny was getting tired.I think it was well worth going to and not to be missed. There were toilets at the entrance.Places to sit etc in the shade.I sugest going early in the morning to avoid the hot sun and coach loads of people. Leave a Comment Directions: Kato Paphos harbour.Park in car park and walk to entrance. It cost us £1.50 cy to get in not 0.70 as i said earlier. This intitled us to walk around the whole site.Mosaics and theatre etc.Setting was great- on sea.

Archbishops Palace by hopang The Archbishop's Palace (Arckhepiskopi) is located at Archbishop Kyprianou Square in the Old Town of Nicosia. It was constructed in 1960 during Cyprus' struggle for independence by Archbishop Makarios III. A bronze statue of Archbishop Makarios III was erected in 1987 at the square in his honour. Archbishop's Palace is now home to the Folk Art Museum and the National Struggle Museum. It is also the offical residence of the Archbishop of Cyprus. The Archbishop's Palace is certainly one of the most popular tourist attractions in Nicosia in particular and Cyprus in general. It is also a landmark in the city of Nicosia. Springtime flowers by rachel_sun As I went in springtime I saw the beautiful wild flowers of Cyprus.During the summer the plants die and it is very dry and dusty. But during springtime-March-April it is stunning.Cyprus has over 1800 different species of flowers and plants and 128 of these can only be found on Cyprus.I found the coastal areas full of beautiful yellow flowers and red poppies. They went as far as the eye could see.You could walk along the coast to Paphos and the scenery was breath taking. The Tomb of the Kings ruins and The Mosaics both were on the seafront and had amazing wild flowers during April-May. The Troodos mountains has a huge selection of wild flowers to see.Autumn is also a good time to plant see.The mass of buttercups was simply superb.45 species of Orchids can also be found on Cyprus. Birdwatching is also great on Cyprus.Such things as Vultures,Kestrels which are local birds can be spotted and more exotic birds that are travelling down to Africa. There are such animals as foxes and fruit bats and even hedgehogs.Snakes are also on Cyprus. My mum found a snake once in her rental villa and it was a blunt nosed viper and it was poisenous. When I was on hol at my mum's place I saw lots of small lizards basking in the sun on the walls. They moved their heads up and down and looked quite comical. There are some rare animals too on Cyprus.A sheep called a "moufflon" is an endangered animal.People hunting it and farmers have nearly wiped it out.It is now under protection. There are only around 2000 left on Cyprus. They live nowhere else.Turtles also breed on Cyprus beaches and are protected by conservation people. Leave a Comment Directions: Troodos Mountains and the 6 national forest parks.Akamas Peninsula.Akrotiri Salt Lake.Tripylos has 2 forest nature reserves.

Wonderful food. by rachel_sun One thing I really enjoyed in Cyprus was the tasty great value food.I found the food a cross between Greek and Turkish. Most things had meat, salad and fruit.I found the local cheese"haloumi" tasty too.Cypriot people have bbq's alot. Our Greek neighbour had one while we were in Cyprus. They tend to invite many people , family, friends etc.Think my best meal on my holiday was a Meze meal.It is a traditional meal which has meat and fish and the food is mostly bbq'd.The meal we had was at The Coral King at Coral Bay.There were 20 dishes for £7 cy per person. It was wonderful. The food just kept coming and coming. We had meatballs, mousaka, kebabs,Greek salad, chicken, fish, oilves, warm pitta breads, some Greek dips, stifado, kleftiko etc.It was one of the best meals I had ever had and it is not to be missed.Meze on the Turkish side is very similar thing too.You gets loads of food and I just took my time eating and had short breaks etc. They dont bring all the food at once.It is bought out in stages. The Meze at Coral King was perfect and the service was excellent.I felt very relaxed and think this is not not miss experience. Leave a Comment Address: Coral King-Coral Bay Paphos CyprusPhone: 26622850Directions: At one end of the village.Beautiful outside seating area with palms.Carafe of wine was £4.25 cy.Meze meal was £7.95 cy.Cappicino was £1.45 cy.Juice was £1.00 cy.Mineral water was £1.00 cy.Other Contact: Also done huge selection food.

Miles of beaches by rachel_sun Another thing I highly recomend is a new atraction that people have told me is very good indeed.Paphos bird park only opened last September. It was a persons private collection and he decided to open it so the public could view them too.Mr Christos Christoforou wanted to show people how beautiful birds are and how important they are and educate people about birds.A new Amphitheater has just been built and talks are held there to educate visiters and there are also owl and parrot shows. The park also has other animals. There is a gift shop that sells such things as t-shirts,mugs, glasses and a good range of African items too. There is a handicraft shop where rugs are made and you can watch them being made the traditional way. There is also a good selection of pottery on sale. The park also has a gallery with paintings done by Eric Peake of birds which are very bright and alive. You can also see and buy paintings done by local artists. There is a restaurant where local foods are served with wonderful views. There is a snack bar that serves alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and light snacks. It opens from 9am til dusk.A farm for children is there with bunnies, chickens, donkies, and goats etc and an icecream bar.Children can have their faces painted too.You can adopt an animal too he help feed it and look after it.The park also has it's own vetinery clinic. The range of birds is vast. There is a crocodile and several snakes and deer and tortoises. It costa cy£9 per adult and cy£5 per child. You can get family discout too.The park opens 365 days a year too. Mum and Nanny down a tomb by rachel_sun Cyprus has an amazing history. The Island has had Greeks,Romans,Byzantines,Lusignans,Venetians,Ottomans,British and Turks wanting a piece of the island.Cyprus had been inhabited for many many years.People can be traced as far back as 6000BC.A Neolithic settlement of Hirokitia in the south .This group of people was about 200 strong and survived a few hundred years. Then there was the Sotira culture who were around from about 4500 to about 4000 BC. These people made the first pottery. Then there was the Chalcolithic Age about 3000BC-2500BC and they made and used copper tools. The Bronze Age then came along around 2400-1900BC.Middle Bronze Age was from around 1900BC TO 1600BC.Many artefacts have been found that show there was a big art culture. Many imported items were also found showing trade was taking place. Late Bronze Age was about 1600-1050BC.This was a fast paces time and trade was at it's peak and writing called "Cypro-Minoan was starting to appear.Lots of pottery and jewellery and ivory carvings were being made at this time too. Greek Immagration started around 1200BC.The Greek language started to take over Cyprus.Around 750-475BC the Greeks built many cities and temples .Many different people raided and tried ceasing Cyprus including Arabs,Ottomans etc.I cannot tell you more as there is so much to learn etc about Cyprus's amazing past. Kato Paphos Harbour by rachel_sun I went to stay near Paphos in my mum's place.Paphos was a great lively place with some great archaelogical sites too.The Roman Mosaics and Tomb of the Kings. The beaches along the coast road were very nice too.We had a hire car and went for drives along the coast.I saw banana plantations and a very dramatic coastline.Paphos is known as the capital of the west.Kato Paphos(Lower Paphos) is the harbour area.I enjoyed walking along the palm fringed boulevards. This area was very clean and pretty and trendy and had a good selection of trendy bars and restuarants and shops. The sea here was a beautiful clear blue colour. There was a big carpark right near the harbour and you could then walk along seafront and along coast road which had the great shops etc.The carpark was free. You could go on a boat trip from the harbour for £6 cy for a one hour trip in a glass bottom boat.May do that next time I visit. The whole harbour area was very relaxing and scenic and we had many days and nights just walking along and having a drink etc.Enjoying the good weather etc. Leave a Comment Directions: Kato Paphos harbour,

Aphrodite Viewpoint by rachel_sun Another place which is well worth traveling to is the Akamas Peninsula. This area is to the west and is unspoilt.People say the main reason it has not been built on and developed is because the British army uses the middle of it for shooting practise.People can still go but the road is very bumpy and a jeep is really needed. My mum has been and went in a 4 wheel drive. You get to it either from Polis or Agios Georgios. She went and said the walking and flowers and unspoilt scenery was fantastic. The tracks are very very bumpy and driving up them in a normal car is not worth the risk. The flowers here are wonderful.35 of them only grow in Cyprus and you can see over 600 species growing here.If you are a keen bird watcher you can also see 68 bird species here too. There are also 20 different types of reptiles and loads of butterflies to be seen. There are 4 hiking trails that are on the north-eastern part of it.They all start and end at the same points which are Bath's of Aphrodite and Smigies picnic ground.People say the best ones are the Baths ones as they are longer and have alot better scenery etc.Aphrodite Trail- first walk takes around 3 hours and is 7.5km long.On the walk you will see a castle and this walk is quite hard as it goes uphill some of the way.Try to go early to avoid the heat. The trail ends back at the carpark which is handy. You can get a book with the trails in at CTO(Cyprus Tourist Offices) and it lists the trails and plants etc on the way.The book is called Nature Trails of the Akamas.I will go here next time I visit Cyprus.Be sure to take plenty of water with you. Nanny and Mum after a decent feed ;-) by rachel_sun I found the food just slightly cheaper than England. But it seemed so much more tastier and very good quality.Paphos had plenty of places to eat out and I cannot say I had one bad meal during my holiday there.Having a good meal is a not miss experience in my eyes.I think food is all part of a holiday and trying local dishes is a must do I think.I have already told you about the wonderful Meze meal.I also enjoyed such dishes as mousaka(shepherds pie) and kleftiko(oven baked lamb)and stifado which was very tender beef.I had some wonderful tuna steak too.Fresh fish is a must try.The Kato Paphos area near harbour had a big selection of places to eat.I also found some very rustic places to eat as well which were better value and had a great Greek atmosphere.I will mention all my restaurant experiences in my restaurants tips. There was so many places to eat and drink around Paphos. We had a takaway one night from a small shop along Chloraka's Road called Savvas. His spit roast chickens and mousakas are not to be missed. He also had veggies and salads and you just helped yourself. The meatballs are a must eat too. A good meal with local wine was around £7 cy per head including coffees.Another place I think is a must is a wonderful pizza at Pizza Express at Kato Paphos harbour. We had a pizza for £4 cy and drinks sitting outside in a very trendy square just off the road.Desserts are not very nice in Cyprus.Several times after a meal we were bought fresh local fruits and or liquors to finish a meal off.As we were self-catering we bought quite abit of food from local supermarkets.I enjoyed walking around shop picking out strange new foods. The food was about 20% cheaper than England if you bought local made produce.Buying some local wine is a real must do.Aphrodite wine was very nice.A dry white wine.About £2 cy per bottle.
