buses to every where on the island

by mikkie50

A great and the most cheapest way to get around the island of cyprus is to catch the local buses for 80cents you can travel all over your local areas. The buses are very clean and they are always on time. Also you can ge the buses to the rest of the island for a very cheap rateps it is better than going on guided tours and a fraction of the cost

Flights to Cyprus

by george5b

Getting a flight from Europe to Larnaca can sometime be a nightmare, especially if you want to go in the high season and don't want to arrive at 3 o'clock in the morning. If you're on a package tour you won't have much choice, but if you're travelling independently you have the following options :Day-time flightsAeroflot (Moscow)Aerosvit (Kiev)Alitialia (from Milan and Rome - although they always seem to be mysteriously fully-booked)Austrian (Vienna)British Airways (from the UK)Cyprus AirwaysLufthansa (from Frankfurt, day time flight only once a week)Olympic (Athens, Thessaloniki)SN Brussels (Brussels)Night-time flightsAir France (Paris)CSA (Prague)JAT (Belgrade)KLM (Amsterdam)LOT Polish (Warsaw)Malev (Budapest)TAROM (Bucharest)CSA and Malev are usually the cheapest. Flights to the Middle East usually leave late at night and arrive early in the morning (around 6-7 am). There are direct...

Transport in Lefke

by SAMEER123

Transport in LefkeBusses, minibuses, and service taxis ply the routes between all the towns and many of the bigger villages. Regular taxis are also available. Bus fares are cheap and taxis are very reasonable. Whilst public transport will enable the visitor to enjoy rubbing shoulders wit the locals, those with limited time are advised to hire a car. The prices are affordable to those used to European rates in the region of twelve pounds a day during the prime season and less at other times. An international driving license or a national license valid in the motorist home country is required. Cypriots drive on the left hand side of the road, as in England. However, there are many left hand drive cars to be seen, which are imported from Turkey. Less experienced drivers are urged to select a right hand drive vehicle from the hire car company; visitors are alerted to the free field style of...

Roads in Cyprus

by MikeAtSea

I hired a car in Agia Napa and explored the entire island. All main roads are very good on both sides of the fence. Even though some locals told me not to drive on the Turkish side, because the road to Lefkosia was too bad, I found the exact opposite. A wide and modern highway. Some country roads are narrow, as are the some in the smaller towns. One handicap though, try and learn the Greek alphabet since the road signs are not always in Latin letters. On occassions I got lost because the name on the sign changed three times, Greek, English and what appeared to be Latin.

Time For Expansion

by cheekymarieh

The main airport for schedule flights is Larnaca. It is also the major airport for charter flights. Larnaca can be very busy in hight season. I would try to avoid it at all costs on Wednesday and Sunday afternnons from May until the end of October when most of the British charter flights land within minutes of each other. The plane can be cleaned by the time the lift arrives for disabled passenegers and even when you go to the luggage collection area you will probably still have to wait. If you have someone picking you up on these days, make sure you have a mobile number to phone them. The chances are they will be trying to get a parking space in a car park that is full. The best time to arrive I found was at 3am on a Wednesday morning. I arrived on a LOT flight from Warsaw the airport was the quietest I have ever seen it. I didn't have to wait long for my luggage. Amazing! Paphos also...

Hire a car

by ChrisnJan

We hired a car for seven days out of the ten that we were here. This enabled us to see a lot of the Greek side of the island, but we ran out of time before we could make it across the border into the north. I would definitely recommend hiring a car here as it gives easy access to so much of the island. The roads here are very good and all the road signs are in English as well as Greek. Usually we would rely on public transport whilst on holiday, I’m glad we opted for the car here. Do make sure you hire from a reputable business though, some of the cars we saw with hire plates would only be fit for the scrapheap in Britain.

Hire a car!

by kaytee_cornwall

A must do in Cyprus is car hire. Probably the easiest place abroad for a Brit to drive. Take your car and travel into the mountains, the views are absolutely amazing. Probably some of the most breathtaking views I have witnessed are around the old aspestos mines there. On your travels up the mountain, there is a village, cannot think of the name and am busy racking my mind, but you can't really miss it. There is a man selling fruit on a little stall in the car parking area...buy off him. he has the most gorgeous plums and cherries ever and gives you a huge bag for next to nothing. Get chatting and he will throw in some freebies!

KIA CAR

by RitchiS1

Surely we came to CYPRUS by AIRPLANE but on the ISLAND we used the hired car .We get it from HERTZ . I dont know the PRICE , because I have booked a complete packet 504 Euro weekly each person , the car and the apartement in Tochni inclusiv !!What I ve never had before has been to pay for filling the car in advance , so you let the car at the airport - empty - if you can .What has been also important , was the fact , that you ve pay extra for tyres . I mean that was 1 pound extra per day .Another driver 2 pounds extra per day .We hired a small CAR the KIA PICANTO , BIG enough for the luaggage for 2 persons . It was also comfortable for each trip we ve made on the island .The mainstreets to the attractions or cities will be very good !!

Service Taxi

by Stroller

Many say hiring car is the best way to get around in Cyprus. That might be true but I'm not a good driver and am afraid of driving in an unfamiliar place. So, for me the service taxi is the best way to move across the country. The reason is, public transportation in Cyprus is, at the time of writing (Sept 2005), extremely poor. There are no trains, and the inter-city buses are very infrequent (quite often once a day, it can be in the morning or afternoon). In fact, the difference of the costs is not huge compared to the service taxi. For instance, if you take the bus from Nicosia to Paphos (which, BTW, leaves at 14:20 and there's only one), you pay CYP 5 . If you take the service taxi, you pay CYP 8.8 (4.8 for Nicosia to Limassol, and 4 for Limassol to Paphos. You have to change. It took me a few seconds to change). Typically, it's a mini van and you'll share with another six persons....
