Day tours

by Stroller

I found joining the day tours is another good way to get around without any hassles. I paid 12 cyp for a day tour to Troodos Mountains. You can get some rough idea from this website:http://www.christours.com I didn't specificly look for this agency and I didn't actually use it. There're quite a few and you can just look around and find one. One thing I have to remind you: they don't have tours for the same destination everyday. I wanted to join a tour to the birthplace of Aprodite on Wednesday, but there wasn't one. They only do it on Friday and Saturday. Contact them in advance if you're on a tight schedule.

Intercity bus from Nicosia to Limassol

by atw26

The intercity bus leaves Nicosia from the Solomos Square and will stop at any bus stop along the way. In Limassol it supposedly leaves from the Municipality Market Parking Place (I haven't take the Limassol-Nicosia leg). The route from Nicosia is: Solomos Square, Makarios Avenue, Nicosia-Limassol road, Latsia, Nisou, Mosfiloti, Kofinou, Choirokoitia, the road that runs along the beach starting from Saint Raphael Hotel into Limassol. This is also the bus to take if you want to go to Zygi or Governor's Beach.Departure from Nicosia: Mon-Fri: 6.00, 8.00, 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.30, 14.30, 15.30, 16.30, 17.30Sat: 7.00, 10.00, 12.00, 14.00Sun: 9.00, 11.00, 15.30, 17.30Departure from LimassolMon-Fri: 6.00, 7.00, 8.00, 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.30, 14.30, 16.00, 17.30Sat: 7.00, 10.00, 12.00, 14.00Sun: 9.00, 11.00, 15.30, 17.30Fare is CYP 2.50 for one leg.

Travel Express shared taxi

by atw26

A good way to get around Cyprus is via the Travel Express shared taxi. However, they only provide the shared taxi service between the hours of 6am and 6pm! Prices (June 2005) for Mon-Sat are:Nicosia - Limassol: CYP 4.80Nicosia - Larnaca: CYP 3.60Nicosia - Larnaca Airport: CYP 4.80Limassol - Larnaca: CYP 4.20Limassol - Larnaca Airport: CYP 5.40Limassol - Paphos: CYP 3.90Limassol - Paphos Airport: CYP 5.10Nicosia - Paphos: CYP 8.70Add about CYP0.60 for Sundays and holidays.Note: there may be other shared taxi services but this one by far is the most known (and I take it once a week!)

Good roads

by yurxlnc

The highways are good and we found no problems, being used to driving on the left. The roadside is planted with trees and flowering plants. It only takes a couple of hours to get from Larnaka to Nicosia, and the scenery changes from time to time.It is more difficult when driving up into the mountain areas where roads are narrower and steeper, but they are also less crowded.

renting cars

by MrBill

Car rentals start at CYP 8 per day and insurance is CYP 3.50-5.00 extra. Make sure that your credit card covers your insurance if you decide to wave insurance, which the car rental company may insist is mandatory. Luxury cars, SUVs and cabriolets/convertables are naturally extra. My experience with a cabrio was as follows. Either it was too windy on the road or it was too hot. I baked in my car with temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius and the sun beaming down. Nevermind in summer when the temperature in over 40 degrees. I wore a hat and suncreen, but still ended-up getting a sunburn. And, it was quite a bit more expensive than a regular car with air conditioning. So, do what you like, but my advice is to rent a small car with air conditioning. I rented a Peugot 206 and it was more than adequate for Cyprus. The distances are not that great. It is only about 70 kms from one city to the next...

Rent a car or a scooter

by wadekorzan

If you want to see more than just one town and a couple beaches, if you want to travel around Cyprus, I would highly recommend renting a car. It is not too expensive and most roads are in good condition. If you are planning on just staying in one area like Agian Napa, for example, then you could rent scooters as most people do. Public transportation is not very good to get around the island and taxis are expensive and distances are far....

getting around by bus

by MrBill

I have never taken the bus or know anyone else that has taken the bus in Cyprus. Mostly we use taxis. However, there is a bus that runs between Limassol and Nicosia and it only costs CYP2.50 one-way versus a taxi which will cost approximately CYP25, CYP28 at night. Buses depart from the Municipal Market Park Place in Limassol and ends up in Nicosia at Solomos Square or vice versa. Buses run Monday through Friday from 06.00 until 17.30 departure. Saturdays from 07.00 until 14.00, and on Sundays starting at 09.00 until 17.30 departure time.It takes 45 minutes to drive from Limassol city limits to Nicosia city limits. The bus takes longer. A monthly bus pass costs CYP60-75. I have not found any information yet on other cities, such as Larnaca and Pafos where the international airports are located. However, I will try to post that information later when I have it. Thanks. $1 = 2.25 Cyprus...

Minibus taxis

by planxty

If you haven't got your own transport, travelling can be a little bit tricky in Cyprus. There are no trains, and only limited buses serving the villages round the main centres (Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol). The only real option is the "taxis". Until a couple of years ago, these were huge stretch mercedes cars which could hold about eight people, but now minibusses seem to do the job. Actually, whilst the Mercs were quite fun, the air-con minibusses are more comfortable. They ply the routes between the main centres and are relatively inexpensive. If you can speak enough Greek you can get them to pick you up wherever you want (home etc.) but for the traveller it's probably easier to go to the office. They are relatively inexpensive. and pretty reliable.round town, the ordinary taxis are OK. the are virtually all white Mercs and have registration numbers beginning with T.
