Cruise to Beirut

by MrBill

A typical cruise from Limassol to Beirut leaves the new harbour in Limassol at 20.00 and arrives in Beirut at 08.00 the next morning. This way you sleep on the boat, and arrive the next morning in time to see the city, but without having to worry about a hotel. Then depending on how long you stay in Beirut, the boat leaves around 23.00 in the evening, and again arrives in Limassol at about 11.00 a.m. the next day. It is an easy way to see Beirut for a day. The cost is about CYP175 ($368) per person for a deluxe cabin, including meals on board. I personally found this a little too expensive, given that the accomodation and meals were adequate, but nothing special. However, you have to consider the price versus flying from Larnaca to Beirut - CYP100 - and then booking a hotel in Beirut for 2-nights? I am sure there are cheaper ways to see Beirut, but this is an easy way.

RENT A CAR

by bobiko

Rent a car is a best way to travel Cyprus. I rented Toyota Corolla with AC for 20CYP a day. Seems to me a fair price.Book your car in advance, get a quote from a local rental companies and find your one.The roads are in a good shape, except the mountains, where a sealed road alter with a loose surface road. But if you keep up the major roads, you will find a smooth sealed roads.

We goes always by plane. Why??...

We goes always by plane. Why?? Because riding on a camel is not so comfortableThere are few public buses and no rail lines.Bus services run within and between towns every day except Sunday. Those between major cities are cheap, frequent and efficient. If you want to travel on a Sunday, you'll need to get a service taxi. They're good for most places in the Republic. It's easy to hire cars and bikes all over the countryTaxis are widely available, but often do not have operating seat belts. The Cypriot transportation system is comparable to that of Western Europe. Traffic moves on the left (British style)

Inter-city busses

by anna-m

If you want to go around town, you can do that on foot, by city busses (which are quite regular) or by taxi. However, if you wish to go from one city to another and you don't have a car, you only have two options: either take a so-called "service taxi" or a bus. The trouble with the busses is that they go only ONCE a day, usually in the mornings, and the taxis operate untill around 6 pm. So, if you, say, wanted to go from Paphos to Larnaca in the morning and come back late in the evening, you can't do that- you either have to spend the night or rent a car (or you could pay a taxi back, but that would cost you a fortune)!

Automatic magic !

by cheekykev

Once you get to Cyprus a car is a must to make the most of the off the beaten track places. Pick up a deal at the local car hire firm and you're away. Some prefer jeeps but we went for a little Honda automatic with room for a wheelchair. It took us on night-time fruit gathering expeditions and on day time trips to churches and mountains with Sex Pistols CDs playing...until twelve miles from Ayia Napa it ran out of petrol. We walked miles to get a water bottle filled with petrol...and then did it again before finally getting a tow off the wonderful Pete.So get a car - you get a lot more possibilities besides !

We flew, from Bristol only took about 3-4 hours. There are also many ferry routes from main land Greece, Israel & EgyptWalking, We used the local bus & also hired a car for a week, which you really need to do to explore the Troodos Mountains properly.

TAXIS

by eden_teuling

There are 3 kinds of taxi services: for cities and towns, for the country side and between cities and towns. In cities and town and holiday resorts they drive 24 hrs. per day, you can go to the place where they always wait for clients or make a reservation by calling them...In the country side you can hire them at their waiting place of call them. It is best to ask about how much you will have to pay, they have lists so you're sure it is OK.A fine solution is: ride with 4-5-7 people and share the low costs! You can call them to make a reservation and they are a fine alternative for the slow buses! Each of the clients is driven to his/her destination!

BUSES......

by eden_teuling

There are 3 kinds of buses:BUSES that only drive in cities and towns (Nicosia, Limmasol, Larnaka, Paphos, Kyrenia (Girne) and Famagusta (Gazimaguza), not very luxurious but adequate!INTERCITY BUSES that ride on a regular base and aren't expensive, but.....they are slow and take a lot of time, perhaps nice to get a good idea of Cyprus....slow but steady.....REGIONAL BUSES connect villages with the nearest town but drive only once in the morning and once in the evening!

RENT A CAR!!!

by Karen10019

I highly recommend renting a car; HOWEVER, make sure you get maps from the car rental agency [they are free] and be mindful that you will be driving on the other side of the road. You might want to check local driving laws online before you drive; OTHERWISE… the car is the best way to travel. The roads are impeccable and are clearly marked. You CANNOT get lost and if you do, the people are always friendly and helpful. Renting a car is a little extra money, but you will see more and have more freedom to do more and explore the entire island.
