Hire a Car

by rob-craig

Best way to get around is probably to hire a car, shop around though as prices do vary dramatically .We were advised by our rep to hire one through them with Avis (of course they would) renting a mutsbishi lancer for a week would have been £154CYP however we hired through a company called ' viking' and paid only £49CYP less than one third -shame on you avis and shame on you reps

by M.E.R.V

Cyprus Airways flies daily from London Heathrow to Larnaca. All alcohol on board is free and unlimited! There are only two airports on the island. The other is in Pafos on the west coast.Jeeps and motorcycles are easily hired in Cyprus. They are inexpensive and probably the best way if you are not travelling with a tour-group.

When you travel to Cyprus do not forget that you are visiting a divided island. The Turkish occupied north is not recognised by the UN as an independent country. As a result no national airline will fly there. The only way to travel there is via Turkey. The south part of the island represents the legitimate Republic of Cyprus recognized by the UN. There are numerous airlines that fly to either Paphos or Larnaca airport including British and Cyprus Airways. In addition a number of package tour companies such as Thomson, First Choice and JMC Fly directly there. The best way to see the island is to hire a car.Car hire is inexpensive so remember to take your driving licence with you.Travelling in town is very easy and can be achieved either by bus or by taxi.It is not very easy however to travel between towns by bus. They can be very infrequent and the pick up points very illusive. The best way to...

If you book your accomodation yourself without flights, you could find it a bit difficlut. Our flights from England always fligh via Turkey (mainland), so you normally have to stop over in one of Turkey's airports before flying on to Ercan in Northern Cyprus. This adds about an hour or so to the flight, making it a six hour flight.Dolmas. The eastern mediteranian transport service. What a shame we don't have the same in Britain.Cheap and quite often frequent.

by Mark_Purdue

There are two major airports on the island, one in Larnaca and the other in Paphos. Flights arrive at both airports from all over Europe and the Middle East. Don't fancy flying? There is a major port in Limassol with passenger ferries coming in from Egypt, Israel, and Greece on a daily basis. If you are coming from Greece then look at coming over on the ferry as it is much cheaper than flying. Best ferry company to deal with are Salamis Lines. Ship leaves Pireaus, a suburb of Athens, and calls at Rhodes and then Limassol.Public transport is almost non-existant. What there is is cheap but rather basic and sparse. You can rent a car or a motor bike.

European Gateways:Cyprus is served by several major international airlines from European gateway cities. From North America, travellers can break up the journey in the European city of their choice or elect to keep connection time to a minimum.Direct Flights:In addition, Cyprus Airways provides regular daily flights from London, Amsterdam and other major European and Middle Eastern gateways to Cyprus. For current flight schedules and fares call Cyprus Airways at 1-877-FLY-ON-CY or 1-718-267-6882.Airports in Cyprus:The major international airport in Cyprus is Larnaca International (LCA); a smaller international airport is located in Pafos (PFO). Flight time from London to Larnaca is 4.5 hours; from Frankfurt, 3.5 hours; from Athens, 1 hour and 45 minutes.TAXI SERVICEIntercity Service Taxis connect all major towns in Cyprus and run every half hour. Passengers share 4-7 seats.CAR RENTALAs...

I would recommend Eurocypria Airlines, Cyprus Airways, Britannia Airways, Air 2000. These are my best airlines to travel to Cyprus with There are any places to hire a car in Cyprus. Dont worry they drive on the left (If you are from UK).

Definately by plane and preferably when you can see the sights from above.Got to be by bus, the local bus drivers are all barking, but you get to see more of Cyprus and to travel in Pafos it is about 50cents to go pretty much everywhere.

by cryogenic

For distance travel, hire a motorbike, but only if you are experienced, as the Cypriot drivers like to put their foot down, regardless of what is around them. One plus point is that they drive on the left as we do in the UK.

Getting Around Bus services run within and between towns every day except Sunday. Those between major cities are cheap, frequent and efficient. If you want to travel on a Sunday, you'll need to get a service taxi. They're good for most places in the Republic, but they tend to take roundabout routes. North Cyprus has service taxis between Kyrenia and North Nicosia. It's easy to hire cars and bikes all over the country. If you enter Cyprus from Turkey, it's not possible to cross to the Republic. You can enter the North from the Republic for day trips only.
