Language

by Svetobeznik

Can you say "Good morning" in Czech? That is (pronounce 'dobri: 'den). The Czech language is difficult for foreigners to learn and pronounce, e. g. the Czech: It belongs to Slavonic languages. Here you can read some words and phrases of everyday conversation:Good-bye. ('naschledanou) Thank you. ('diekuji) Please. ('prosi:m) I am sorry. ('prominjte

The Breclav region and nature

by diamond7

The entire system of ponds is an important stopping and nesting place on bird migration routes and one of our most important ornithological locations. The isles in the Chateau Pond host the largest colonies of common herons and qua birds in the Czech Republic.Bevies of greylag geese, pochards, shovellers and numerous species of waders regularly rest here during their migration.

small towns offer more authentic Czech experiences

by richiecdisc

Try and get to some of the smaller towns that have not been undulated with tourists and retain more of the authentic Czech flavor. Though Prague must be experienced, you cannot say you have truly been to the Czech Republic with a mere visit there. Ina and I had our share of arguments about the beer places I just had to see, the beers I had to find, but one night she found that my insatiable desires can lead to not only fun but also a true taste of a country's social fabric. We found ourselves in yet another dive, one my guidebook described as 'a boisterous and grubby low-priced beer hall for serious drinkers.' I was in search of Samson Dark, a dark beer that I ultimately found to be a bit too malty for my tastes though Ina, a non beer drinker, loved it. What we did find was a rowdy group of local hockey players who at first glanced over at us (okay, it was probably just at Ina) and...

See Cesky Krumlov

by iandsmith

Since I basically only saw Prague I haven't got much to report except that everyone I know says to go to Cesky Krumlov. I had intentions but a visa mix-up foiled me. However, the train trip north to Germany along the Elbe is very scenic and gives you a dramatic idea of the difference between the two countries and you can read all about it in my travelogue which I hope you will find informative and interesting.

hiking with a polish diver and sleeping cheap

by call_me_rhia

I'm no authority on the Czech Republic for sure.. in fact i did not even know I was going there. The person to blame is a Polish diver who promised me a 4-days hike in the Tatras and took me for day hikes to the Sudeten mountains instead, which they now-ay look like mountains (moral of the story: never agree to hike with a diver). Discovering that the Czech republic is far cheaper than Poland - so westarted driving towards the border to look for accommodation: it's at that point that I realized I was going to enter an unplanned country.

Prague

by furioso

There is no excuse for boredom in Prague. You can pack a lot of exploring into a short visit, charging through its compact network of lanes, passages and cul-de-sacs, or spend weeks meandering along and slowly savouring its sights.Prague's prime attraction is its physical face. The city centre is a haphazard museum of 900 years' of architecture - Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, 19th-century revivals of all of them, and Art Nouveau - amazingly undisturbed by the 20th century. This historical core of the city - Hradcany (the Castle District) and Mala Strana (the Small Quarter) west of the river, Stare Mesto (the Old Town) and Vaclavske namesti (Wenceslas Square) to the east, and Charles Bridge in between - covers about 3 sq km and is pedestrian-friendly, so you needn't go at break-neck speed to discover its most famous attractions. You'll have to travel further afield to visit...

We visited the Pilgrimage...

by Mandy23

We visited the Pilgrimage Convent, Dolni Hedec. The foundation stone of the convent was laid in 1706. The convent was opened to the public in 1968.In the centre of the courtyard is a chapel with the Sacred Stairs. In the chapel, the pilgrims have to climb 28 steps on their knees. The courtyard is surrounded by ambits called the Way of the Cross with baroque altars and sculptures.
