Old-Town Square, Prague
Favorite thing: Old Town Square was breathtaking. It is a huge, open area surrounded by amazing structures - Town Hall, Cathedral of Tyn, St. Jacob Church and many others. At night, there are spotlights shining up the spires creating a fairy tale effect. To the left of the photo you can make out the astrological clock, part of the Old Town Hall. I am sure you can find this on every VT Prague page!!
Fondest memory: Actually all over Prague there are numerous cathedrals, or churches. I imagine that if people would put as much effort into learing about their fellow man as they have put into these structures, then we would have peace today.
Go to the Old Town Square, continue through narrow old streets to the Charles Bridge, cross the bridge and go up the hill to the Prague Castle. Visit Vysehrad on the opposite river bank. There is a nice park with a great view on Prague.
Fondest memory: Time at the university.
Favorite thing: Old Town Square. So much to see. Its little winding streets (lined with shops and restaurants) and picturesque groups of houses, The Town Hall, church of Our Lady Before Tyn, church of St.Nicholas. So much history and amazing architecture. The Astronomical Clock is of great interest to most. And the Old Town is also where Franz Kafka lived much of his life.
This is Neo-Baroque appartment house from 1895-97.
It was built in place of two demolished Baroque houses.
Fondest memory: Writer F. Kafka spend part of his youth there.
Check out the Christmas market with the huge Christmas Tree.
Have a hot wine and watch the worls go back. Make sure you sit near a heater :-)
Favorite thing: The Powder Gate Tower links the entrance to the old town from the new town. It is one of the few remaining gothic towers from the city fortifications and was used as a gunpowder store.
Favorite thing: If you have the chance, visit Staromestke namesti - the Tyn Church (built in 1365) and Old Town Hall are beautiful...
Favorite thing: The medieval feel to the square here is evident. There are many winding streets and always large crowds. The picture is of me stood underneath the Astronomical clock.
Favorite thing: Visit Staromestske Namesti [Old Town Square] in the center of historic Prague. More history may have taken place elsewhere, but this is where all Tourists end up.
