cesky krumlov from the castle

cesky krumlov is a very worth while side trip when in prague. by train you go to ceske budejovice then connect to cesky krumlov. the trip takes about 3 1/2 hours. you can easily see cesky krumlov in an over night stay. i suggest leaving prague early and get there in the early afternoon and spend the night. spend the following morning in cesky krumlov and return to prague in the afternoon. this will give you plenty of time to see the sites of cesky krumlov. this is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in europe and should be included when planing a trip to prague. see my cesky krumlov pages for more information.

It located in the teritory of Prague's castle. The word "strahovati" in czech means "protect". In ancient times the monastery was out of castle's walls and its function was to protect walls of castle where kings lived. Now in buildings of monastery is an exposition halls where people can enjoy of Czech historical art (mainly of religious themes).

I truly prfer Czesky Krumlov than Prague itself. For one reason, it's less crowded and people are friendlier here. Moreover, you don't feel ripped off as no one is going to force you to pay for the bread they put on your table when you order a meal!
I highly recommend that one night stay in Czesky Krumlov, then you can take your time to have an evening stroll and a morning breakfast. It's so reflective.

Krumlov is definitely the most beautiful of southern Bohemia's quaint towns. Most people come for a day and stay a week. It’s that enchanting! It boasts the second-largest castle complex in the Czech Republic, a unique Baroque theater, and a picturesque medieval town center with cobblestone streets.  Besides the castle, there are a number of smaller sights (the city museum, the museum of marionettes, and the Egon Schiele Center, etc.). Since the town is so pleasant, I strongly recommend spending the night-or two or three. However, if you are limited time, a day trip is better than nothing.
Distance: approx. 118 miles (note: take the bus and not the train)

Cesky krumlov

This is another guided day excursion we took during Christmas. (About 10 hours)

Cesky Krumlov is located in scenic Southern Bohemia along the banks of River Vltava (outside Prague).

You will find the Cesky Krumlov Castle, the second largest Castle after Prague Castle. Unfortunately the Castle was closed, but we had the chance to wander around the territory taking stunning pictures.

It's a place full of medieval character and very beautiful. Another worthwhile visit.

There are many tour agencies in Wenceslas Square offering services to Cesky Krumlov.

Please browse through my travelogue page for some pictures of Cesky krumlov.

A great day out in this little town. Lots of things to see including the castle with its bears!
Plenty of cafes, restaurants and places to rest especially in the Old Square.
Take your walking boots, plenty of camera opportunities.

I went to Cesky Krumlov for two days and loved it. CK is a medivial city with a beautiful castle, as shown below. It's only about 3 hours by train from Prague. But watch out - it can be VERY tourist-filled.

Also, if you're a beer fan, you can take a tour of the Budweiser (budvar) factory in Cesky Budejovice. Unfortunately, it was closed when I went.

Monks of the Strahuv monastery collected documents and books and as a result now the biggest museum of writing is here in libraries of Strahov monastery. The decoration of libraries are amazing.
