~ Prague ~ by Heavens-Mirror I took a small suitcase with a handle to pull along as it was better than a huge backpack. Gaz took a bagpack and found it to be too heavy when walking around to get the metro and bus.
Take layers of clothes as the weather is unpredictable, some days it was cold and windy then it would be sunny and warm. So make sure you take a warm jacket and layers underneath.
Take a good camera to get some nice photos of all the architecture and lovely buildings of Prague and nice views from the bridge and tower.
A good pair of walking shoes is needed as you can spend many hours walking around the town.
A map of Prague is a must.... when we got hold of one we managed to find our hotel within 10 minutes.

Prague in the snow by sandysmith Well we visited towards the end of March 2004. The trip started off cold but blue-sky bright and by the last afternon we had a snow storm - you could hardly see the castle from the other end of Charles Bridge. Layers of clothes and a warm jacket are a good idea. I was really glad I had some gloves too.

bring an extra bag to hold more when you go home!
leave your good heals at home unless you plan on using a taxi. the cobblestones can ruin your heels. also - for walking around all day - a comfortable pair of shoes means something like a pair of trainers with a good sole! much easier on the feet winter - it gets cold and windy. scarves, gloves, hats - those small accessories that help keep the exposed parts warm...important. summer wear - AC is rare, and when it gets hot, it's hot. so dress accordingly.
depending on where you stay determines the type of toilet paper you'll "experience" :-) hostels will use a very cheap, brown, harsh paper, where the nicer places will have softer, more comfortable paper. if you have a problem with that...bring your own! medical - bring your own tylenol, ibp, etc...especially if you dont know language. here, you have to have a prescription for most everything...and you can't buy aspirin in the store. only in pharmacies. can be a hassle
if you like photography - bring your tripod to help you get the beautiful night shots. prague is good about lighting up the historical buildings where they stand out against a night sky. black and white alwasy makes for great pic here in prague!
quite a few parks and hills you can hike around...so bring comfy shoes. --then again, comfy shoes are a must just to walk on cobblestone all the time!
bags - when walking around, i suggest a decent backpack that can hold water/snack, has inside pockets where you can hide wallet, money, etc. and also hold your maps, guide books or whatnots. Leave a Comment

Free Prague map by HORSCHECK Take a free map of Prague at one of the Tourist Information Centres. The map includes the locations of the main sights and a plan of the public transport system (metro, tramway, bus). Prague has a few Tourist Information Centres in the heart of the historical town. The Main Office is located at Celetna 14 and it is open daily from 8:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. Leave a Comment

Have an over the shoulder bag for the day rather than a rucksack, it is a lot safer as the bag rests to the front of your body
Comfortable shoes are essential as lots of walking is involved in trips to Prague. Lots of layers so that should the weather improve you can strip off. Always carry an umbrella as it can rain anytime.
Take lots of film as it is expensive in Prague. Good internet cafes allow you to download and burn your digital photographs for a good price. Leave a Comment

Smiling to stop the teeth chatter by bpwillet I always pack way too much but I am glad for that in the end. That way you are always prepared. But pack for what you are going to wear or layer up in the winter. Most winter wear is bulky anyway and can be very nice to have on cold days.
My trip to Prague was in March. It was quite cold still but that was atypical for them. Having a hat was nice and a scarf to keep the cold wind out. I would also suggest layers and warm coats. I didn't bring gloves with me. Mistake! I was glad to have bought some on our first day because they really came in handy.
I may suggest bringing some sort of lens cloth. There were many times I had to use a soft cloth to wipe off my lens during slight foggy and snow times. Leave a Comment

A bag which fits over the front of you is handy so that you can keep an eye on your valuables when in crowds.
Comfy shoes, it rained in June a little but was too warm for a raincoat so we used umberellas.
Lip Balm....the sun is strong even when its raining!
Just bring tons of film, there is so much beauty to capture here. Leave a Comment

by katmag Comfortable shoes of course! Bring an umbrella too, because it tends to rain unexpectedly out of the blue sky, and you don't want to waste an entire day in your hotel room.
Also, bring your MAC card (best to stick with the big ones - Visa and MC) instead of traveler's checks. You will get a much better exchange rate, and this is so much more convienient! If you want to have one less worry on your head, invest in some kind of money belt. This will come in useful everywhere in Central and Eastern Europe, as there are lots of pick-pockets in the big cities. It's also good to hide your money and passport on the overnight trains. I didn't have a money belt, so I just stuck all my money and passport into the pillow case on which I was sleeping. No one was getting in there without my knowing about it. Leave a Comment
