There are a several places that tourists are recomended for unforgetibal views of the city. The TV Tower in Zizkov, the Petrin Hill Tower and of course the tower in St Vitus Cathedral. We tryed the last one. It was realy worth it. For those who are not fit fisicly, I would recomend the TV Tower since it has an elevator. Here are some pictures taken from the top of the Cathedral. The Bridge's of Prague by easyoar Letna Park is where the Metronome resides. However go up there, and head off towards the Castle (but not that far). This is where you will get the best views of Prague from, indeed this is the stereotypical view of Prague, but it took me a little while to find it as I went up Petrin Hill first only to be disappointed. I think the best time to go up is a little while before sunset, and probably on the longer days of the year so that the sun gives the best lighting. Whilst you are up there, look for all the bridges and there different uses. The one nearest has a tram going over and a boat about to go under. The second nearest is Charles Bridge, which is a pedestrian only bridge (and Prague’s most famous bridge). Leave a Comment Address: Near the Metronome

Prague Castle & St. Vitus, from Strahov monastery by hundwalder There are many locations offering excellent views of old town Prague other than from the tops of the St. Vitus bell tower and the old city hall tower. For example, there are great views of Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, and upper mala strana, from the beautiful Strahov Monastery complex. This photo was taken from that location. There is no charge to visit the complex. The Petrin hill tower, Petrin hill park, Letna park, and several other locations also offer great views. The many flowering trees that bloom in mid to late April provide the perfect setting for your views. Allow yourself time to visit the fascinating sites missed by most tourists. You will be greatly rewarded for the minimal effort. Use Prague's excellent public transportation network to quickly get to these " remote " locations. Tram #22 will take you to Strahov Monastery and to unforgettable places along the route. Enjoy Prague and get local. Leave a Comment

by ncfg Thanks to my VT friend Eugene (eugene.uk), i didn't miss the incredible sunsets over the Charles Bridge, with the Prague Castle looking at the top of the hill. Lots of tourists were waiting for the perfect shoot, and I was one of them. I wish to have a better camera on that moment… Leave a Comment Address: Charles Bridge

view of Prague and its bridges by sandysmith After all that sightseeing of the Castle area and Strahov Monastery you can drink in the view from its orchard gardens - part of Petrin Hill. Of course if you still have energy left you can explore Petrin Hill's attractions - see my off the beaten path tips. For now though I was happy to leave that for another day and sit and drink in the views of the River Vltava and its bridges. Alternatively if all this excursion has made you hungry then the monastery restaurant in this complex - Klasterni Pivovar Restaurant of SV Norbert serves up tasty czech fare. I enjoyed a real tasty goulash and beer there at very reasonable cost.

Mala Strana started life in the 8th or 9th century as a market settlement. In 1257 Premysl Otakar II granted it town status and around 1360-1362 fortifications were built on the orders of Charles IV. This has been known for centuries as the Hunger Wall, built, it is believed, with the aim of giving employment to the poor during a period of famine. Mala Strana was almost destroyed twice: first during a battle between the Hussites and the Prague Castle garrison in 1419, and then in the Great Fire of Prague in 1514. Renaissance buildings and palaces replaced the destroyed houses. The baroque churches and palaces that give Mala Strana its charm date from the 17th and 18th centuries. Is Prague's most prominent Art Nouveau building. An art-nouveau building constructed in 1911 (A.Balsanek, O.Polivka) on the spot of the former king's court, a seat of the kings of Bohemia from the end of the 14th century till 1438.The rich interior andexterior decoration is work of A.Mucha, M.Svabinsky etc. The monumental Smetana Concert Hall forms the centre of the building being the place of the international Music Festival Prazske jaro (Prague Spring), other concerts and important social events. Situated on the site of the former Royal Court Palace, this impressive building is a frequent stop for visitors drawn in by the art nouveau gold trimmings, stained glass, sculpture, and the regular exhibitions and concerts. Historically, Municipal House had been used as a seminary and a military college, but was finally demolished and replaced by the present cultural centre, with many exhibition halls and an auditorium designed by A. Balasek. On October 28th, 1918, the Municipal House was the scene for the proclamation of the independent state of Czechoslovakia. Boasting the biggest concert hall in town, The Smetana, is situated in the heart of the building, and is sometimes used as a ballroom. The interior is decorated with works by leading Czech artists of the first decade of the century - most notably the famous Alfons Mucha. There is also a cafe and the famous French restaurant in the lobby hall where visitors can relax. Leave a Comment Address: Namesti Rpubliky, 5, Prague 1Phone: 222 002 101Directions: center

Prague view from Powder Tower by codrutz I took this picture which looks like a postcard :) from the nice Powder Tower (Prasna Brana) - built in 1475, 65 meters high, for which I had to climb the 186 stairs to the roof's four viewing points. Two of these viewing points looks out to the Old Town Square, projecting the pointing roofs of the Tyn Church into the sky. Leave a Comment
