....belt off... trousers down...life is such a scream. (to Quote General Melchett during his rendition of the boating song in an episode of Blackadder Goes Forth)

Many hundreds take to the waters here in the summer. Most take the simple trip around the peninsular, fall in a few times and go back to the town.

There are however a variety of longer trips, with differing degrees of difficulty.

We took "Trip 5" which was a 15Km raft to Zlaka Koruna. If you put a bit of a sweat on it takes less than 2 hours.

It is a lovely piece of countryside to easily paddle through and there are always other boats about if you run into any problems - which is very unlikely.

You could even take a picnic, but I would advise picking it up after you have negotiated the weirs through the town itself as this is the place that if you can come off - you will come off !

It cost about 850Kr in high season which is quite good value considering the 'Tourist trap' ride round the town is 300Kr

Equipment: All provided but remember suncream, disposable camera etc

The nice valley of the Vltava through the Sumava/Böhmerwald/Bohemian Forest from Lipno to Cesky Krumlov offers nice opportunities for rafting, canoeing and fishing. It is almost as crowded by canoes as the Ardèche in the South of France. You can observe here lots of people fishing as well. The licences for that can be bought at several places in the area, best to ask for it at the numerous Campings and hotels along the river. The river seems to be an easy water, at least all that what we could see from the road and conclude of the way some obviously not too experienced enthusiasts did their trip down the Vltava.

Vltava River canoeing

You can hire a canoe, go camping (http://www.atcolsina.unas.cz/en/main.html) - you can hire a bike and go cycling...
Water is sometimes too low, though, for canoeing.

Equipment: Try this link, there are some tips.

Coming up to a weir in Cesky Krumlov

Canoeing from Vyssí Brod past Cesky Krumlov to Zlata Koruna. There is a constant flow downstream, which means you can have rests along the way and still make good time down the river. The highlight is definitely the ramps down the weirs and making your way through Cesky Krumlov.

Equipment: Canoe hire from Ingetours cost 150Kc/person/day. The cost included canoe, life jackets, dry barrel, transport of your backpacks/bags to next destination (they have campsites from 50Kc/person over 5/night for camping).
You paddle approx. 5 hours a day.
Along the way there are numerous pubs, icecream shops and camp grounds, therefore you don't need to take a lot of food, just water and snacks.
