When we got close to the town center we pulled into a parking lot which had pay and display meters, if you are driving in the Czech Republic always make sure you have lots of change because you almost always have to pay to park. On Sundays, most places have free parking, the lot we found was free. It turned out we could have driven all the way to the main square as there is a limited amount of parking available but it was just as easy to park just outside the center.
This meter was in Czech, German and English, I can't remember if the other ones we used also had German and English. Look for the blue sign in my 1st photo that shows parking is metered and then look for a pay box like in the 2nd photo. If you do have to pay, figure out how long you are going to stay, put in change until it displays that time and then put the receipt on your dashboard.

Half of the highway to Tabor is a nice modern road, and the other half seems to have been constructed around WWII and is a single lane road. Nonetheless, traffic generally moves briskly (by US standards), and slower vehicles always let you pass.
Once in town there is ample curbside parking along 9 kvitnia which is 5 minutes from the beginning of old town.
The road is very hilly, and I could not maintain speed in overdrive gear, had to drive in the 3rd most of the way. But that is in part a function of a small engine in the rental car.
The lowest rates I found were with Dvorak rent-a-car, which operates as a branch of Advantage. Their office is conveniently located in the airport. The rate was $39 plus insurance, even though the advertised Polo is actually a smaller model, Fox. After a little bit of haggling they agreed to give me a Polo pictured below. It rides comfortably and seems to be well built, but the 1.2 engine is inadequate for relaxed driving on those hilly motorways, but is OK around town.
