South Bohemia is easily accessible by train or even cheaper, bus. Ceske Budejovice makes an ideal base from which to explore the area and is only 2 1/2 hours from Prague by fast train. From here, Cesky Krumlov is a short and frequent bus ride away as is slightly less accessible Trebon. I was lucky enough to be driven around by an excellent driver with her little lupetto...thanks Doreen. The best part of doing it by car is being able to stop for photos when you want like this one on the way to Bavaria from Cesky Krumlov.
