  • Flying to Brno is possible as it has an airport. However it is probably much easier to fly to Vienna or Prague from where it is easy to catch a bus or train to Brno.

  • I mean, an international airport. We traveled to Barcelona from there. (Just to show it really works ;) ) There is a couple of smaller airports around Brno, too.

  • Ryanair have a daily scheduled flight from London Stanstead airport direct to Brno which saves a transit stop. A taxi from Brno airport to either downtown or to the exhibition center is approx 10 Euro and takes about 20 mins.

There is also a main rail line going through the city with connections to Budapest, Moscow Vienna and of course to Prague.

The best way how to move quickly around in Brno is taking a tram. In the town centre they run every 5 minutes. But if you are not in a hurry please walk, it is worth looking up on the nice historical buildings. Their statutes and decorations attract me even after such a long time I have been living in Brno.

On the picture there is the Faculty of the Music on the left, when you walk by you can often hear the piano or some other kind of music, when the students are practising :)

You may get easily by car to Brno / Brünn, as it is connected with the highway to Olomouc and to Prague.
The fastest - but certainly not the most beautiful - way to Vienna might be via the highway through Bratislava.
A lot more scenic is the road through Mikulov, as you may combine it with great castles like Valtice and Lednice.

Please keep in mind that you have to pay an extra-fee for the highway :
Buy your sticker for the car at the border or at any petrol-station !!

Take the train to Brno / Brünn and you will get into the very centre of town, with just a few hundred meters to the cabbage-market and all major attractions of Brno / Brünn.
It might certainly make sense to make a short stop-over during your train-ride from Vienna to Prague : 1-2 hours might be enough, when you want to see the major attractions ( without Spielberk castle )

When travelling to Brno / Brünn, leave your car outside the city and get in by public transportations !
Buses and trams go on a regular schedule until shortly after midnight and make a perfect means to explore Brno / Brünn.

    Tickets are really cheap !!
I think I payed about 0,5 Euros into the town-centre - the busdrivers will sell the tickets !

Outside the city-centre you will find plenty of P&R - places and may park free of charge there ( and I stayed even there over night in my motorhome, without any kind of a problem )

  • The public transport system in Brno is excellent. The backbone of the system are the trams with good support from trolleybuses and regular buses.
Most services run through the two main points north and south of the centre; Hlavni nadrazi (main train station) and Ceska.
Tickets can be purchased from kiosks, machines or DPMB offices. Remember to punch your ticket once aboard.

  • Travelling by bus is generally quicker than train within the Czech Republic.
In Brno the main bus station is Zvonarka. Situated out behind the main train station past Tesco (5/10min walk) just follow the walkway.
I used just go hear on a Saturday and Sunday and just had a look where the next buses were going to, quickly chose, bought a ticket and jumped aboard. It was my little way of getting to know the country, especially Moravia.
(the website listed is Czech - clicking on Jizdni Rady will get English/German timetable).
