Readers of my VT pages may know a couple of things about my writing and travel. Firstly, I don't like to write negative reviews as I can normally find at least something good in most situations and secondly I like a beer. Both these are relevant to this tip.
Having done a bit of online research and checked the local tourist literature, the name of Charlie's Hat bar kept cropping up, so I thought I would give it a try. This proves one thing, they have their promotional operation fully functioning. If only they would expend the same amount of energy in running a half decent bar, it would suit them better.
I visited at about 2030 on a weeknight in June and realised that it was a nightspot so might not be too packed but I was surprised to find myself the only patron there, although a young couple turned up later. Despite this conspicuous lack of clientele, it still took about ten minutes for one of the several staff to deign to serve me and then with considerable ill grace. In a city where I had received excellent and friendly service just about universally, I found this surprising.
The place itself is a fairly standard "cave bar", nothing special. The toilets are, shall we say, unsavoury. I really can think of no reason for going here in a city groaning with the weight of excellent bars.
Unique Suggestions: You do not have to go there, trust me.
Fun Alternatives: The alternative is any other bar in Brno, there are more than enough to keep the even thirstiest traveller happy.

There are 400 great architectural structures dating from 1918-1945 available for professionals and the foreign public in the City.
All you can find at www.bam.brno.cz and it contains informational texts, maps, photo documentation and audio recordings to download. This project is non-commerce and of course free for visitors. Anyone can take the nine suggested tours or create an architecture trail of their own. The information is also provided in the form of markings on the pavements outside the buildings providing codes of the buildings and internet pages. In this way, you can obtain information about a building simply, e.g. using your internet browser on your mobile phone, and listen to its story right in the streets of Brno City.

In the spring of 2012 will be printed manual, which can become an important tool for the popularization of the architectural wealth of the city of Brno, the authors believe. In Brno, between the world wars, a number of exceptional buildings of modern architecture was built - for example architects Bohuslav Fuchs, Henry Kumpošt, Ernst Wiesner and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, his Tugendhat Villa is listed on UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other famous buildings include the Hotel Avion, residential colony houses or fairgrounds.

Though the tour of the casements at Spilberk Castle is interesting in that allows you to wander around on your own, there really is not all that much to see in the exhibits. Still, it's inexpensive and there are nice views from the moat.
