  • Spielberg Castle (Hrad Spilberk)

    Brno Things to Do

The area above Brno is dominated by the magnificent Hrad Spilberk or Spielberg Castle, the history of which is fascinating. It is now also home to the Brno City Museum. The complex is in several parts, so let's go through them. Before I begin, I should say that the place is very photogenic and I developed rather a camera frenzy. As there are only...

    Brno Restaurants

This is a local place with a smoking and no-smoking section except it is probably hard to escape as it is not that large inside but either way there were no tourists here just countless locals getting together for a meal. For some reason my stomach turned on me a bit and I was not able to enjoy my pork disk but Kim had an almond crusted trout dish...

    Znojmo Things to Do

We could not go in to either building as we had no Czech money through foolishly thinking the Czechs had converted to the Euro only to find the Czech crown very much in evidence. There is an entrance way to the castle next to the brewery. You will go into a little building with tourist info. No need to pay here, pass through and go down the stairs....

    Breclav Transportation

There are frequent trains from Vienna to Breclav, with the trip taking around 1 hour. Most international trains stop here for customs purposes, i.e those serving routes like Vienna-Prague-Berlin-Hamburg or Vienna-Warsaw. For the cheapest tickets you are well advised to get tickets from Vienna to Hohenau and then Hohenau to Breclav, as this keeps...

    Blansko Things to Do

The last part of the visit is done by boat. Halfway the boat stops at another landing and you are taken on a short walk to the...

Awesome. Breathtaking. Jawdropping. All these adjectives do not fully describe the effect. You leave a narrow dark tunnel and all of a sudden there is daylight. Blansko Things to Do

The visit begins with a walk on dry ground through a series of chambers and domes with beautiful flowstones. I especially admired the Mirror Lake (photo 1) with its reflections. Two of the many...
