  • Walking zone in the new town

Just on the way to the old town, the new town is just so clean, maintained and gorgeous. There are mix of commercial blocks and butiks and supermarkets on both side and its been made a pedestrianized zone. It was in early January I was in Hradec Kralove, I wonder it must be much more beautiful in spring.

  • The Bridge over River (?)

On the way to the old town from rail station, you are likely to cross this iron-bridge if on foot. Hradec Kralove Cafe: Still incredibly cheap prices

by globetrott Updated Aug 18, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Prices are still incredibly low in this part of Czechia. You simply have to look around a bit and choose a place where also the local people go.

Mostly you will not find an english or German menu, but a nice and helpful staff and really low prices.

Favorite Dish: Powidl-kolatsche is our german expression for this kind of pastry, filled with Plum-stew, that was roasted and is almost darkbrown or black.

For these 2 pastries and a great, strong espresso I payed a total of 0,8 Euros in a Bakery

Hradec Kralove Nightlife

  • Think it might be called Elvis...

Think it might be called Elvis club...... though the name could equally be totally wrong. Somewhere only a couple of blocks away from the old town square, anyway. Open on a Sunday night, with the ubiquitous soldiers dancing away in uniform, frightening the girls off the dance floor! Good fun, lively music and very reasonable prices. Don't be...

  • Pub underneath railway...

Pub underneath railway station.Where we went when the other pub closed. Lots of fruit machines, piped music from local radio station, nothing much happening, but open all night through (funny feeling at 7am, being in a pub while they are hoovering the carpet, dancing to music you've never heard of before. If you come here, you're unlikely to be...

You might easily oversee the lovely old town-well of Hradec Kralove, situated in the middle of Velke namesti / the town square.Just imagine the old medieval times, when everybody from town had to get all the water from that well and carry it in bottles and jugs to their homes for all of the cooking and washing...

  • The entrance to the cathedral

Have a look at the great back-entrance to the cathedral.I saw the gate that way, when I arrived the first evening of my stay, when the cathedral was locked already.During the day it will be open and you may enter freely and take your pics without restrictions. ( unfortunately some other churches in Bohemia have a sign of "no photography")

  • A small church under the golden Tiara

When you see the huge golden Tiara and the keys of St.Peter on top of St. Klemens church, you might get the impression that church has to be quite big.In fact it is just a tiny chapel with a few benches for maybe 80 persons and a lovely main-altar.Next to the entrance you will see an inscription to commemorate the visit of Pope Johannes Paul II on...
