Liberec Off The Beaten Path

This church is about 100 meters off Benesovo namesti and the townhall, that you may partly see on my picture behind the church.
I do not remember any special works of art in the interior, but I remember, that in the hot day in july 2003, when I visited Liberec, it was the very best place to cool down a bit from the heat outside.

This is the most beautiful building on Benesovo namesti / the town square.
It is built directely opposite the townhall and has special golden ornaments under the roof, and also again the special kind of pattern between the windows.

This is another fine building with excellent sculptures in the facade. Most of these buildings might belong to international companies already, who invested their money in time, while they were cheap and needed restoration.

Watch out for these fine details in the facade and the special pattern like the one between the windows.
Have a closer look for the well-decorated structures that hold the bay-window of this building.

It is great to see that so plenty of these buildings had survived the communiste times, when architecture needed to be cheap and built quickly, but obviously these buildings have not been destroyed in WW II , and lateron isn was cheaper to maintain the old buildings than to build a new, modern one.

Panzska is a rather narrow street,and taking pics of a total facade will need to take an extreme wide-angle-lense. Otherwise you never get the right impression of the total composition of the architects.

Somehow this building with art nouveau ornaments, at the very end of Prazska was my favorite building, maybe because of the lovely globe in the ornaments under the roof.
Maybe the home of an early merchant-globetrotter ??

There always seemed to have been a competition between rich merchants, who was able to build the more beautiful buildings and shops. And obviously it always was good for the business as well.
