PUB ETIQUETTEFirst ask 'Je Tu Volno?' (is it free) before sitting at any empty seat in a pub. Put a coaster in front of you to indicate that you would like a beer. DON'T STAND UP & WAVE if you are not served right away. At worst you will never be served & at best you will be marked at a GREENHORN, ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,........To pay, say Zaplatit, leave a tip by giving a higher figure than the total bill or waving away part of the charge.

by Rockhound

When you enter someones house it is customary to remove your shoes and leave them by the door or in the designated area.Don't say the word 'peach' out loud, cause it sounds alot like a swear word describing a womans private partsAvoid being loud and obnoxious when using the public transportation, Czechs are usually more quiet and reserved (unless they are drunk). You can usually point out an American, by how loud they talk.Try saying 'hi' to people on the street, you'll get some interesting reactions because they are not used to it.

Pilsener paradise

by CliffClaven

The Czechs love their beer, and per capita consumption is among the highest in the world. There are excellent breweries in Prague, but it is Pilsen that should have a special place in the heart of all beerlovers, since it was here in the first half of the 19th century that local brewers first perfected the art of making the light, clear lager-style liquid that was to become the world's commonest type of beer. The local brewery is still producing its Pilsener Urquell, a delicious brew that can rank with any of its mass-produced rivals.

The first information about...

by nikolka

The first information about this beautiful castle is from the year 1222 when there used to be a gothic fort. Rich history with many different and interesting owners and stories ended in 1945 when the castle became the state's property. Since then is Lednice(in English 'The Fridge') a cultural entity and serves mainly for touristic purposes. The castle and its surroundings, which all belong to UNESCO World Heritage, are to be found in the southern Morava, not far from the town of Breclav

There are many beautiful castles and chateaus in Czech, however tourist usually come to see only the bigger ones. You would be surprised how smaller castles are well maintained and fair as well. I promise I will add more of them to this site however as an appetizer I would recommend to visit the castle Seeberg. It is located in Western Bohemia in a village called Ostroh, close to spa town Frantiskovy Lazne and (my hometown) Cheb. The village has only about 14 inhabitants but you can find there one castle, one hotel and one pension and altogether three restaurants:) If you look for accomodation close to Frantiskovy Lazne (5km) go for restaurant/pension/hotel Seeberg. For more information go to its website on http://www.seeberg.cz/angl/angluvod.html

Once you are in Prague or generally in the central Bohemia, there is a beautiful historical monument, which you definitelly shouldn't miss. Don't desist from visiting one of the most famous castles Karlstejn. I will not write more about this master piece, because you can find all you need to know on a very profesional site at http://www.hradkarlstejn.cz/noflash_en/index.html Enjoy yourself!

Another interesting place is for sure Kostnice, which has its interier built solely from bones and skulls. I have seen some questions about this place on VT and can fully recommend visit the castle near Kutna Hora. The admission is 30CZK (€1) for one of the two parts of the Areal (Areal = the Ossuary + the Cathedral) or for both parts it is 50CZK (€1.57). It is open all year round with the exception of 24.12. (who wants to visit place full of skeletons on Xmas day anyway:)). For more info see http://www.kostnice.cz/

In the south of Czech, there is an old city with a beautiful castle that has traditionally been a residence of Czech aristocracy. It is as famous as Prague - at least within Czech borders. And has its own unique qualities, which cannot be found not only in Prague, but nowhere around the world. I am talking about Cesky Krumlov and its famous theatre with a revolving auditorium, a bear moat and beautiful gardens. The picture is from Bear Festival, which takes place each year on Christmas Day and is calculated for parents with impatient kids. Childran are coming from early morning and are bringing honey, sweet bread, fruit and other tidbits for bears, which are on a strict diet for the rest of the year. The kids can place and hang their gifts under or on several Christmas trees in the moat and later on watch, from safe distance of the castle bridge, the bears banqueting.

For heaven's sake, don't condescend to the Czechs because they were communist and are still poor. It's a very civilized country inhabited by courteous and well educated people. Also, please don't speak Russian. It may bear some resemblance to Czech, but they dislike speaking it for much the same reason the Dutch would rather not speak German. If you think you're being cute when you say 'Spassivo'..You're NOT.

Tesco Výhodný Nákup Zubní Pasta

by cwest03

Tesco Výhodný Nákup Zubní Pasta. I'm not sure what the difference is between tand pasta and zubní pasta but what I do know is that this pasta was cheap. I think I paid something like 17¢ US for this stuff at Tesco in Prague. What a score. The flavor is mint as you would expect. No detail on the tube so I have no idea what's in it. Adventure tooth paste.
