Jablunkov Things to Do

I was hiking a few times around beautiful Beskydy Mountains surrounding Jablunov. The views over Czech, Poland and Slovakia were amazing. Add wildlife including... great natives I was lucky to meet on a trail or in mountain cottages ("chata"), delicious although very cheap beer and usually very good local dishes there.
Simply great relax far from VT and real world, a must if you... like hiking, have at least 1 full day and when the weather is acceptable (usually from May to early October and in... winter).

The town of Jablunkov is situated in the valley of the Olse river and is surrounded by mountains located partly in Czech (Beskydy) and in Poland (Beskidy). These mountains are the part of large Carpathian Mountains which streches from Romania through Ukraine to Poland, Slovakia and south-eastern corner of Czech Republic.

While entering the Czech Republic, Matt told me what it was like when the communist ran the country.

You can see speakers on the light poles, which was the only news that the Czech people received many years back. No radio with public radio or television stations. I asked why all the apartments had satellite dishes and that is the reason why, to hear world news.

The city was great, but what made this day so fantastic was sharing it with Maciek and Ursula.

It was a great weekend and so it is getting dark and we head back to Slovakia and then the party in the mountains.

The ride back through the mountains was quite memorable, with two lane roads, many people walking, riding bikes in the dark and getting slightly lost.

Matt calmed my fears by saying he ALWAYS gets lost on the way back to Poland. ;o)

I love to go to a city, see the churches, monuments, mountains and all it has to offer.

This city has mountains surrounding it, I liked the small town - get away after being in the big city of Krakow.

It was a relaxing weekend seeing two new countries in one day.

This is a picture from the street corner. Across the street is the church. We got there on Saturday and the church happened to be closed, so we did not get a chance to go inside it.

Mosty is a small town, but lovely with yellow flowers blooming all around.

Unfortunately we arrived before sundown on Saturday night. The church was closed, so we had a short visit here.

But, now I have seen 2 Czech Republic cities and a new country.
