Lavka Unie - Footbridge of Union by Zajem If you visit expo centre for its any fair and then you visit as well Slezskoostravsky castle you will go through this footbridge what is located just between those two places by the confluence Lucina and Ostravica rivers. You can find it there since October 14th 2003. It was moved from the coking plant Sverma where footbridge joined districts Marianske Hory and Hostalkovice over the Odra river. Now it is named "Footbridge of Union". Leave a Comment

by swetluska Right above the centre of Ostrava there is a stack called Ema. It was build up by storing up deads from the colliery. In 60's the was spontaneous ignition of the inner part and since then the stack keeps burning and light smoke is coming out. They say temperature inside is 1500 degrees and that's why new minerals are being created there. Despite its activity, it is said to be safe and because of its popularity new turistic path was made. Some adrenalin fans go there by bike, I would recommend by foot :)) From the bridge of Milos Sykora follow the yellow signs. Leave a Comment

Not too far from Ostrava is the Beskydy mountains - we went to Pustevny ski slopes which I thought was great, but it was my first time skiing. Cheap, lovely scenery, accomodation at the top (also not too expensive). You can get there by bus or a combination of bus and train. The legendary Radegast statue (on all Radegast beer bottles) is near the peak of Pustevny... Leave a Comment

30 kms from Ostrava there is small village called Bela where the trouts farm is located. You can rent fishhook and try to snatch your own fish, they will prepare it for you straight away (the price is about 130 CZK/kg). Or you can order already a cateched one :) Especially their trout with melted butter is far-famed. Opened during weekends from May to the end of September. How to get there: By car: Ostrava - Hlucin - Pist - Bela By bus: bus nr. 72 stop Bela (in Ostrava stop Muglinovska or Sad Bozeny Nemcove) By bike also well accessible. Leave a Comment
