We went to watch Middlesbrough play Banik Ostrava in our first ever UEFA Cup away game. We had a slender lead to defend and managed to gain a draw to go through to the next round. The majority of the stadium has no roof and so if it rains you get wet. Many English Premiership fans would be horrified at the stadium and its facilities. Fortunately my brother and I have been following Middlesbrough long enough to experience similar stadiums in the other divisions of English football. To me, these are 'real football grounds' rather than the modern sterile stadiums (Ayresome Park as opposed to the Riverside Stadium).

All of the seats give an excellent view of the pitch except for the first few rows. The fencing at the front of the seats to stop pitch invasions also reduces the quality of the view until you get a little higher up.

The Banik side is one of the top Czech sides and has produced some well known players. They regularly qualify for European football.

One thing I would try to advise is arriving early if you are a visiting supporter as there was only one small entrance for the 900 official Middlesbrough tickets.

Equipment: Go prepared for rain.

Banik

A best football in Ostrava nowadays you will find at Bazaly, the stadium of football club Banik Ostrava.
The club was founded in 1922 as SK Slezska Ostrava (= Sport club of Silesian Ostrava). Since 1952 is a name of the club Banik Ostrava what is related to mining, the major branch of industry in the region at that time, hard preferred by communistic government.
In 1937 first time joined the major league of Czechoslovakia - I.liga.

You can visit Banik on his stadium Bazaly build in 1959. This stadium is still located in Silesian part of town, divided by the river Ostravice.

Last time won the title of the major league of Czech republic in the season 2003 ? 2004.

Bowling, biliards and great pizza for very good prices.
At the evenings discotheque - the loud music can be annoying, when you want to chat with your friends.
