Jablonne v Podjestedi > castle Lemberk by globetrott Lemberk castle / Schloß Löwenberg is about 20 km east of Novy Bor and dates back to 1240 and was built in order to watch over the trading-paths to Zittau. In the 17th century the castle was partly rebuilt and "modernized" into baroque style, like it still looks today. You have to enter the castle by several gates leading from one court to the next one, before you will finally get into the centre-court and may see the great architecture there. All of the ground is covered by great and romantic cobbled stones. The castle shows great interiors of the time between the gothic , the baroque untill the 19th century. Visits of the castle-interior is only possible by a guided tour and the entrance-fee is just 50 Kronen ( less than 2 Euros ) NO Video & NO Photos INside the castle, during the tour !! You may take the train to Jablonne v Pojestedi or road # 13 / E 442 from Decin - Novy Bor... Leave a Comment

Litomerice - 60km north-east of Prague by globetrott Litomerice / Leimeritz is an interesting town, 60km north-east of Prague and rather close to Terezin / Theresienstadt. The most interesting part of Litomerice is certainly the townsquare with plenty of buildings dating back to the 15th century. Quite unique is the house with the black sgrafitti-decorations, it is a hotel today . You might need half a day in order to explore Litomerice and prices are still quite low in that part of Czechia. You may go to Litomerice by train, by cruise-ship on the river Labe / Elbe, or by car, using road #15 from Lovosice (at the end of the highway north of Prague ) Leave a Comment

Loket - close to Karlovy Vary / Karlsbad by globetrott Loket / Elbogen will make a great and interesting place for a short stop-over or even a longer vacation ! The castle of Loket was built at a great stategical point on top of a rock, surrounded by about 90% by the deep valley of the river Ohre / Eger and in the old times there was only 1 small natural bridge to the town. " Heute waren wir in Elbogen das über alle Beschreibung schön liegt und sich als ein Kunstwerk von allen Seiten betrachten lässt. " Today we have been in Loket, that is built in the most beautiful way and may be viewed from all sides... This is what Goethe has written in his diary on july 1st, 1807. Goethe came to Loket about 12 times - it was a distance of about 150 km south of his home in Weimar. Today it will take 4 hours maybe, in the old times it certainly was more than 1 day to travel by horse&carriage. You will still find some traces of Goethe in Loket: Hotel " Bily kun " (Weisses Roß / white horse), where Goethe celebrated his 74th birthday and where he proposed to a young lady named Baronesse Ulrike von Levetzow. Goethe was 74 and the young lady was 19... ...and she refused him. Goethe was very sad and never returned to West-Bohemia. Ulrike von Levetzow never got married. You may take the train to Loket or drive on road # 6 and # 20 / E 49 Leave a Comment

Novy Jicin - east of Brno / Brünn by globetrott Novy Jicin / Neutitschein might be another interesting town for a stopover in the east of Czechia, on your way to Ostrava. The town has about 27000 inhabitants, a lovely town-square and a lot of great buildings all over town. One of the sidestreets, Msgr. Sramka, rather close to the big parking, is full of great Art Nouveau-buildings, like you may see them on the upper-part of my picture-combination. You might need about half a day in order to explore all sight of this town and prices are still really low, as tourists mostly pass by without having an idea, what they are missing... You may get to Novy Jicin by train or by car, using road #48 / E462 Leave a Comment

Pardubice - 100km east of Prague by globetrott Pardubice / Pardubitz is a town of 93000 inhabitants , built by the Pernstein-family in the 16th century at the confluence of the rivers Labe / Elbe and Chrudimka - about halfway between Hradec Kralove and Chrudim. They built a great renaissance town with plenty of similarities to the architecture of Italy.Great and unique facades are found all over the old part of town, but especially on the town-square, called Pernstynovo namest. Take a closer look for the great baroque stucco-ornaments and the big variety of facades. The townhall of Pardubice / Pardubitz was built from 1892 - 1894 and decorated with sgraffiti by Mikolas Ales. The townhall was recently restored, like most other buildings on the townsquare and looks really great today ! Dom U Jonase - on the townsquare opposite of the Green Gate is another great excample of a unique facade - see more pics on my link below ! When walking through Pardubice, you should go as well to " Miru " the street leading directely to the Green Gate. About 300 meters before you get to the gate, you will see 2 great Art Nouveau-buildings on the left and on the right, before you go back to the main square is the great Art-Nouveau-theatre. You may get to Pardubice by train or take the road # 37 from Hradec Kralove to Chrudim or road #2 from Kutna Hora. Leave a Comment

PRIBOR - 50km east of Olomouc by globetrott Pribor / Freiberg is a small town, about 50 km east of Olomouc. It has a nice townsquare, like you may see them at many places in Czechia, and it would not make sense to make a stopover there, except for lunch or dinner.... ....but mainly Pribor / Freiberg is well known as the birthplace of Siegmund Freud, who was born there in may 6th, 1856 in Zamecnicka 117. Freud lived there only until he was 4, then his parents left for Vienna ( where you may still see his appartment and ordination in a museum in Berggasse 19, close to Votivkirche) Freud came back to Pribor once in 1872 for a small vacation. You may take the train to Pribor or drive on road # 48 / E 462. Pribor is also the place, where you will leave the aminroad from Olomouc to Ostrava, when you intend to go the Pustevne, Koprivnice or Roznov pod Radhostem. Leave a Comment

Pribram - 50km south of Prague by globetrott Pribram is a small town, about 50km south of Prague and makes a great daytrip, eventually in combination with Karlstejn. The town of Pribram is nothing special except a very few nice buildings, but the nearby monastery Svata Hora ( the holy hill ) is one of the most visited pilgrim-churches all over Czechia. Just click on my picture-combination and see the great ornaments of this beautiful church. You may go to Pribram by train or by car unsing the A4 When searching for Pribram in your map in the Czech alphabet, you should keep in mind, that the 1st R has an accent on top and is listed AFTER the towns like PRUZIN... Rakovnik - 50 km west of Prague by globetrott Rakovnik is a small town, 50 km west of Prague / Prag, and I found it, when driving through the countryside. The main attraction in my opinion was the old towngate, shown on my picture-combination. The townsquare has also a few interesting buildings, but nothing very special. The best part of a place like this is the fact, that you are able to go for lunch and dinner at really incredible prices and also supermarkets and shops are a lot cheaper than in the big cities. In order to get to Rakovnik, you may take the train or road # 237 Leave a Comment
