little visited Litomerice by richiecdisc Another small gem in northern Bohemia, Litomerice has a well-preseverd medieval town center with a main square featuring Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. There are quite a few inexpensive places to eat and make sure to try the local beer, Zlatopramen. Leave a Comment

the many graves of Terezin by richiecdisc The town of Terezin in north Bohemia was once famous for its imposing fortress but the lasting impression unfortunately is as a concentration camp to "re-urbanization" of at first Prague's Jewish population and then others from around Europe. Over 30,000 people died here from malnutrition, disease, and cruel punishment. This fascinating if morbid area is easily accessible from Litomerice, just a few kms away. Leave a Comment

nearly devoid of people, Zatec is unspoiled by richiecdisc This small town in northern Bohemia has seen better days though it remains important with regard to hop growing, something the Czech Republic is noted for. It sits on a hill, overlooking these ancient hop fields and the city itself has recently been used for a couple of movies due to its small population and funky worn out appearance. Leave a Comment

There is a tiny place to go for the absolute best streudel in the entire world! It is called Susta Strudl and the address is Jesenoiva 29 on the border of the Vinohrady and Zizkov sections of Prague. They offer several different kinds of streudel, altho the apple I heartily recommend. Each streudel is the length of a person's forearm and weighs a lot. The apple is just stuffed with 2 different kinds of apples as well as a generous amount of cinnamon. The dough is light and flaky and delicious. It is topped with powdered sugar. And the best part - it's only about $1.25 US for one of these streudels. What a bargain! To get there, take the subway's green line to the Flora station. When you exit, take Jicinska as it goes along the edge of a large cemetery. When you cross over Olsanska, stay on Jicinska altho it becomes Prokopova. It will curve to the left. When you hit Lipanska, turn right. This street will become Jesenoiva. You will need to walk a while on Jesenoiva to get to Susta Strudl but it will be on your left hand side in the middle of a residential neighborhood when you find it. It occupies the ground floor of a tall building - it is just a small store front with orange bars on the front. Leave a Comment

The Town Hall in Ceske Budejovice by Paul2001 The Town Hall is the most beautiful building in Ceske Budejovice. It was built in 1555 but was redesigned in 1731 and given a baroque facade. It features frescos of representing Justice, Wisdom, Courage and Prudence. Sadly the interior of the building largely closed off to the public except for the tourist information office. Inside Kostnice by cosmogypsy The Bone Church is located in Kunta Hora. The Monks started finding human bones in the cemetery surrounding the church. They didn't believe the people buried in the cemetery should leave the grounds. Therefore they decided to be a little creative and decorate the church with the human bones. It is definitely worth the trip. I believe it is about 1 hour outside Prague. Leave a Comment

Castle Helfstyn by Ivapeeva HELFSTYN: This huge castle in south-eastern Czech Republic - near the town of Lipnick is host to one of the world's best known Blacksmith Festivals - "Hefaiston" which happens every late August. Hundreds of people camp below the castle for the weekend long time-warp back to the medieval days. The beer and dumplings flow in abundance and spectacular sculptures and iron art pieces adorn the lawns of the numerous courtyards. This magical giant of a castle is definitely off the beaten path as it sits alone on top of a forested hill overlooking the valley below. Meet fascinating people from all walks of life while soaking in the days long gone. Leave a Comment

by N_Bomb Ok this was the darling of the backpackers scene about 3 years ago so it's probably just starting to get into mainstream consciousness but I would say that the BEST activity possible here was the river rafting. Just floating down the river that bisects the town downstream for 3 hours was incredible the scenery and the little villages I saw were absolutely breath taking. Hop in when you stop by there don't panic when they just hand you the paddles and explore to your hearts content

The Stone Fountain in Kunta Hora by Paul2001 Yes this is fountain. I did not think that it looked like one but it is. The fountain is considered to be a fine example of 15th century architecture. It is located by the Church of St. John of Nepomuk which you can see in the background. It is an interesting piece of architecture and if you have plenty of time in Kunta Hora, then check it out.
