Pribram - 50km south of Prague

by globetrott

Pribram is a small town, about 50km south of Prague and makes a great daytrip, eventually in combination with Karlstejn. The town of Pribram is nothing special except a very few nice buildings, but the nearby monastery Svata Hora ( the holy hill ) is one of the most visited pilgrim-churches all over Czechia.Just click on my picture-combination and see the great ornaments of this beautiful church. You may go to Pribram by train or by car unsing the A4When searching for Pribram in your map in the Czech alphabet, you should keep in mind, that the 1st R has an accent on top and is listed AFTER the towns like PRUZIN...

Tepla is a famous monastery 10km east of Marianske Lazne / Marienbad and about 50km north-west of Plzen / Pilsen. The monastery lookes quite sad and in bad condition still from outside, BUT has one of the most precious libraries inside.A part of the old monastery is used as a modern hotel with all facilities and an excellent restaurant. This could be a perfect place for a peacful and quiet vacation !There is a big park around the monastery and a lot of great works of art at some places. You may go to Tepla by train or by car, using road # 210 !

Zelena Hora - 50km north-west of Brno / Brünn

by globetrott

Zelena Hora is one of the most famous examples of the so-called "Baroque Gothic"-style.A formerly Gothic church was rebuilt and re-decorated in baroque style. The whole of the church follows certain rules and symbolisms :most of the rooms and ornaments have 5 edges, only the outside wall of the cemetery has 10 edges. The church was consecrated to the National saint of the Czech Republic :Jan Nepomucky / Johann NepomukHe was thrown into the Moldau-river from Charle's bridge in Prague in may 16th, 1393.The legends says, that he was not willing to tell the king Wenzel IV any secrets, his wife told him during the confession.

Becov nad Teplou - 90km west of Prague

by globetrott

The beautiful castle of Becov nad Teplou / Petschau is the major attraction of this small village in the west of the Czech Republic - about half way between Karlovy Vary / Karlsbad and Marianske Lazne / Marienbad. The castle is perfectely restored and has a great park around it, where you may take a walk, while you maybe have to wait for the next guided tour. The treasury inside the castle seemed to be very interesting, as plenty of pics of the exhibits were shown in the ticket-office.When you walk into that small village with maybe 1000 inhabitants you may see some great buildings, like the ones on my picture.Becov is still completely out of the area, where most foreign tourists would go and therefore prices are still rather low.But they obviously have plenty of local day tourists. You may take the train to Becov nad Teplou or drive on road #20 / E49

Roznov pod Radhostem / Rosenau am Radegast is a small town about 60 km east of Brno .The major attraction of that town is a large museum of old wooden houses, that were taken down at many places all over Czechia and were rebuilt in Roznov in a way that you get the feeling to be inside an old village. The museum consists of 3 parts that you may visit seperately or with a combination-ticket.1)The Mill valley, consisting of different kinds of watermills and you may visit it by guided tours only, that will include demonstrations of the mills working like in the old days.2)The wooden village is the oldest part of the museum, down in the village and it includes a great church, cemetery, a post-office, grocery, merry-go-round, beehives etc.3)The Vallachian village up on a hill nearby, including many farmhouses, horses, sheep, geese etc. Also the town of Roznov is nice for a little walk. You may...

Lazne Kynzvart Zamek / Schloss Bad Koenigswart is in a distance of just 6 Km from Marianske Lazne / Marienbad. It was one of the castles of Klemens Wenzel Lothar, Fuerst von Metternich - Winneburg ( 1773 - 1859 ).That is quite a long name for the former Austrian chancellor and foreign minister , Fuerst Metternich, well known by the Vienna Congress of 1815." Der Kongress tanzt "( "The Congress is dancing") was mostly the answer, when people talked about the new facts of the Vienna Congress in 1815, as the first time in history negotiations about peace and future borders of the various countries in Europe were not simply a matter of " dry talks on a round table " BUT mainly a big ball and lots of great festivities in Vienna's Hofburg palace...The castle was built between 1820 and 1833 by Pietro Nobile, as one of the many castles for Fuerst Metternich. The castle is a bit out of the village...
