Olomouc Off The Beaten Path

One of the best joy I have when visiting old town is to check the small streets and allies. You never know what interesting you will find out so be sure to take a walk and stroll the small streets in the old town.

This old pharmacy is nice to look at from outside and it even looks better inside, where you are of course mostly not able to take any pics. In any case I always love to see such old pharmacies, most of them have not changed their interior during the last 100 or even more years.
Lekarna is the czech word for pharmacy and this one is just 50 meters from the townhall, on the main-square, so you cannot miss it !

this excellent Triton Fountain is situated at Námìstí Republiky, opposite of the museum and it is a masterpiece of the sandstone-artist Wenzel Render, who also created quite a lot of the other famous fountains in the centre of Olomouc.
This type of Triton-fountain follows the one in Piazza Barberini in Rome, where dolphins are holding up the shell with a boy on top of it and this boy is holding a pair of "waterdogs" on chains.

Dolni Namesti is another great townsquare close to Horni Namesti with the townhall and the great plague-column. Dolni namesti is a lot less crowded and less touristy and still it is worth taking a walk there in order to see the column for Holy Mary and the lovely fountain opposite of it. Haunschild Palace (see my last 3 pics ) is one of the most beautiful palaces on Dolni Namesti.

Denisova is one of the main streets of Olomouc. To get to the Old Town from bus and train station get a tram - you will go this street.

Hradisko Abbey, Domenico Martinelli, 17th Century. Founded as a Benedictine monastery in 1078 by the Premsylids, it passed to the Premonstratenisians in 1150. In 1241 the monastery was destroyed by the Tartars, and in 1643 by the Swedes. Those vandals should stick to cars.

Triton Fountain is located at Republic Square (Namesti Republiky).
