Have a closer look at this great fresco on a building close to the town-hall.
Pardubice / Pardubitz has a great tradition in horse-riding and riding-competitions, as you may see at my " sporting-tip " - This might be one of the reasons, why quite a lot of facades have horses in their ornaments.

This fresco is on a building close to the donkey-relief. It is obviously part of the St. Bartholom?us-monastery.
The best time to take a picture of it will be in the morning, when the sun shines directely on it.

This relief with a donkey is rather small and might easily be overseen. It is on the first house to the left, after you have entered the toqn-square through the green gate.
As you may also see on my picture, it is possible to walk up the gate-tower and have a great view over the town.
What a pity, I had my car parked a bit outside and the parking-meter did only take the money for 1,5 hours, so I had to return too early.

What a shame, I simply missed the great Art Nouveau Theatre in Pardubice.
According to my map it is at the end of the street " Miru " and just opposite of the Green Gate.
Unfortunately books about Czech Republic are really hard to get, and the one that mentioned the theatre I found just AFTER my vacation... :-((
Anyway : On my picture is the second Art Nouveau Building in " Miru "

When walking through Pardubice, you should go as well to " Miru " the street leading directely to the Green Gate.
About 300 meters before you get to the gate, you will see 2 great Art Nouveau-buildings on the left.
On my picture is one of the great facades - just take a closer look !

From outside this is the handle of the church-door : You actually press the tail of a lion in order to open the door.
Door-handles made in such a manner are to be found in many places in Czech Republic, but in that case, I was lucky to get a great picture.

When you leave the church again, please have a look at the beautiful lock.
In this case it is not the handle of the door but the cover of the lock that was decorated in the most beautiful way., and obviously ven covered partly with silver.

When entering the church, have a look for this great fresco on top of the entrance-hall, reminding me a lot of the frescoes I have seen in Siena.
You may as well still see the gothic sandstone-columns of the 15th century.

Have a look inside the church, it is open during the day and may be visited feely and without any restrictions regarding photography.
And a side effect, I have to admit, it is a great place to cool down a bit on a hot day in July...

This church is a few meters to the left, before you enter the townsquare through the Green Gate.
The church was first built in gothic style and later-on rebuilt in Baroque style.

Beautiful Pardubice in East Bohemia (Böhmen).

The oldest record of Pardubice dates from the year 1295. The coat-of-arms is, however, much older. It refers to a legend of an event during the siege of Milan in 1158 when the falling gate cut the...

Pardubice - a lovely town in Czech republic

If you look carefully at the picture you can see 2 Latvian girls between this Philipinese choir. We were staying at the campus and it was fun!
