We had about two hours until our tour of the Urquell Brewery was to begin and we were both rather hungry. So we stopped into Na Spilce, the restaurant on the brewery complex. It was raining pretty hard outside and we were glad it was so close by.
When we first walked in, we were in the gift shop, full of interesting goodies and clothing – didn’t browse too much since we figured we’d have time after lunch. Through an archway in the back of the shop we went down the stairs as we entered the restaurant. I guess there were a lot of other people with the same idea as us – it was pretty crowded but we managed to find a table. Later on, we offered to share our table with another couple who were having trouble finding a seat.
It was raining outside and we were cold, so we both opted for the goulash soup in a bread bowl. Hubby had an Urquell beer with his. The soup was really good – warm and hearty, just what we were looking for on a day like today.
We took our time, chatting with the couple beside us, before heading up to the store and on to our tour. As we were leaving, a band was arriving and starting to set up. Poor timing on our part for sure!
The only disappointment was the wait staff. Possibly because they were so busy, but they seemed rushed and a bit curt in their remarks; and they were hard to catch when you needed something. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt – it was a yucky day and there were lots of people to serve.
Would I go back? Yes, I would do it again – maybe without the rain next time.

...you will find this pizza place. San Marino is a cosy restaurant with good food and a nice deco. The pizza I chose was good, but could have been a little more spicy.
Open daily from 11am to 10pm, on weekends 11pm.
Favorite Dish: Pizza Hot - it's not nearly as hot as it could be, but it's alright

When walking around Plzen gardens around old town, I decided to turn somewhere for dinnertime. I headed into “U Mansfelda” restaurant; there were some places outside with a view to gardens and street leading to Pilsner Urquell brewery.
My order of meal was goulash with bacon dumplings (quite traditional Czech food) and, of course, famous pint of Urquells’ beer.
Restaurant is open: Mon-Sat 11:00 - 24:00 Sun 11:00 - 22:00

We sat outside on the terrace. We were lucky to get a seat since it's a very popular place. The food was really good. We only got the appetizers but in Czech the appetizers are really a treat. We had venison pate w/ a walnut oil with walnuts and a berry/horseradish compote. That came with bread. It was really delicious. We also ordered the roasted eggplant with cheese. It was a unique dish, one layer of thinly sliced eggplant that was really enjoying hte olive oil and some herbs topped with a really chewy cheese. Great beer snack. The service was superb too.
It's good people watching and near a small stage that has entertainment. We missed it but it is just a few steps away.
A relaxing place.
Favorite Dish: I only had the two that I mentioned above.
Bill was: 90.00 for the zepec.gril.lilek (looking at the recipt and thining that is the venison pate?) 90.00 is 5.00 approximately.
Eggplant was 35.00 which is 2$ approx.

This is truly an old medieval rustic restaurant. The most medieval one I've ever been too. this pub is housed in what was once a torture and execution chamber in the middle ages!!
There are dried hops on the ceiling, old stone walls, and a big open fireplace in the center of the main dining area. Stara Sladovna has one of the best beer (including Kelt Stout) and mead (honey wine) selections in Pilsen. Be sure to try the Korma (a mixture of beer and mead).
Favorite Dish: I believe this place is known for it's massive plates of grilled meat. A table full of 8 Russians were very excited about there massive plate of meat until the table next to them with 3 people ordered and had twice the amount of food they did. Funny! We ordered the mead and it tasted like hot wine to me. It must be traditional though.

K Restaurant is another good place to get typical Czech food. The place also serves other types of food, some Indian dishes as well as Grusinian cuisine (from Georgia). Its great location and multilingual (Czech, German, English) staff make it a nice place for lunch or dinner.
Favorite Dish: I had a Grusinian dish which was really good - meat sticks with onions and several other vegetables.

This was the best place I've eaten at in Plzen. Jitka, a student of mine, showed me the town and proposed to eat at a typical Czech restaurant. We came across Zumbera and ordered something typically Czech - in my case a schnitzel scalloped with potato dough; in Jitka's case minced meat in potatoes. Both dishes were really good and had a taste that was as yet unknown to my palates.
Favorite Dish: Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of my dish... But I'll find out for you.

Shanghai is located in a cellar and thereby a little hard to find. Furthermore, the rather darkish atmosphere is not really what one might call a nice place to eat. On the other hand, the food is good and tastes typically Chinese-restaurant like.
Favorite Dish: I had some pork dish with a sweet-and-sour sauce which was certainly tasty.

The restaurant is nice and divided into two parts. Smoking and not smoking. The smoke does not penetrate the non smoking area.
The space is interestingly decorated with 'French' style pictures.
The food came fast and hot (within 10 minutes) on a busy packed Friday evening around 7:00.
Service was fast and without any real flairs, as the usual Czech style.
Favorite Dish: Minestrone.
Fried ice cream... I can't help it. It's just good. Better to be shared by two. A scoop of vanilla/chocolate ice cream covered with piskoty (vanilla wafers), dipped in batter and deep fried. Topped with whipped cream...
