PLZEN / Pilsen > Mestanska Beseda

I have to admit : THIS was MY favorite place to go in Plzen !From outside it looks rather like a theatre and it is built opposite the public library and the big park and fountain.The building was built in 1901 - at the time of Art Nouveau - and you may see many great ornaments all over the building, that was recently completely restored and even looks a bit too clean and perfect now.And like always in art nouveau-buildings, the whole building, including doors, windows and most furniture was designed by the architect in order to make a complete work of art.Normally you would expect a recently restored place like this to be extremely expensive, BUT it was excellent and NOT expensive at all ( and almost empty at 11.00 a.m. )I had a large toast Hawaii, 2 espresso and a juice and finally payed less than 5 $

Plzen / Pilsen > The famous brewery

The Pilsner brewery is about 800 meters off the centre of town and it open to visitors. They have huge restaurant facilities in different buildings, souvenir-shops, and at certain times they offer tours through the brewery.It is a pity, I did not make a tour, but I was going to drive on the same afternoon, and just LOOKING at the beer, without tasting......was never my intention !(And driving in Czechia means 0,0 promille !!!)In the restaurant you may as well get an alcohol-free beer of course, but during the tour through the brewery you may taste the "real stuff"

Plzen / Pilsen > The big Synagoge

The big Synagoge is just 200 meters off the town-square on the circle-street called Pobrezni and it would be a pity to miss it !The big Synagoge was built in the 19th century for a rather large jewish population in Plzen.Normally the Synagoge will be locked and not open to visitors during the day.

Namesti Republiky is the townsquare of Plzen / Pilsen and it is the biggest of all cities in Bohemia.It is surrounded by plenty of interesting and beautiful houses .The buildings on my pic are the most beautiful in my opinion and they look best in the morning light.The town hall of Plzen is another highlight of the main square and it was built in 1554 by the italian architect Giovanni de Statio.It shows great sgraffitis from 1908.If you have the chance, take the pics in the early afternoon, when the sun is high enough, otherwise the church will cover most of the great sgraffities with its shadow.For more infos and pics of Plzen - click on my link below !

Tepla - 10 km east of Marianske Lazne/Marienbad

Tepla is a famous monastery 10km east of Marianske Lazne / Marienbad and about 50km north-west of Plzen / Pilsen.The monastery lookes quite sad and in bad condition still from outside, BUT has one of the most precious libraries inside.A part of the old monastery is used as a modern hotel with all facilities and an excellent restaurant.This could be a perfect place for a peacful and quiet vacation !There is a big park around the monastery and a lot of great works of art at some places.

A: I know. But in Pilsen and Loket only. In Pilsen try Satlava (street Sady 5. kvetna) or Stara Sladovna (street Mala). You can find it in www.mapy.cz, write "Mala, Plzen"....
