DUCHCOV > Cafe CASANOVA: Cafe CASANOVA in Duchcov

by globetrott

Casanova was living just about 300 meters from this cafe for the last 13 years of his life.I am not sure, how long this cafe exists already with this name. It seems to be rather a clever idea, than a traditional name.Anyway, I know plenty of people like to see places like this, even if i has only an interesting name.At least Casanova was living here for 13 years, he certainly often passed by this building, so very close to the castle. It is a cafe and offers also small snacks and great palacinki / pancakes.I normally park my motorhome in the village, as it is rather safe and quiet there and go for coffee & palacinki in the morning...

Laze Kynzvart > Schlossrestaurant Metternich: Dining in a great surrounding

by globetrott

This restaurant is just a few meters from the castle Laze Kynzvart / Bad Königswart , inside the old manor-farm.It is part of the hotel, that is mentioned in my Hotel-tip.Prices are still rather low, when I remeber correctely, I payed around 180 Kronen (= 6 Euros) for a soup, main course, Mineral water and espresso in 2003. This restaurant has a much larger menu than the castle-cafe, a lot of space inside and on the large terrace in the innercourt of the former manor-farm.I may imagine, they make some business with tourist-buses every now and then, in-between they are almost empty, like on the day when I was there in july 2003, at lunchtime.

DECIN > Boat-cafe: A boat-restaurant " stranded in town"

by globetrott

Have a look for this very special restaurant : It looks like a boat and you may sit in the terrace that looks like the stern of a ship.I had my motorhome parked just below that boat and for breakfast I had just a few steps.Prices are quite low still and most of the waiters will speak at least a bit of English or german ! They also had a german Menu. I had 2 nice portions of Palazinki ( pancakes ) with icecream and a strong espresso & juice and payed a total of maybe 4 Euros. It is quite funny to see that palacinki are made in a different way all over Czechia !

LOKET > Hotel Goethe: Loket - Do not get trapped by the name !!!

by globetrott

I had lunch there on the lovely terrace facing the townsquare.I had venison-ragout - not a really great choice, as it was completely DRY and without any sauce and for a much more " western price " than in other places in Loket.BUT It was mainly the name Goethe that attracted me and the fact, that they had a german&english menu as well. They also add a cover-charge FOR EACH course - something that I NEVER saw anywhere else in the world so far.In my opinion a covercharge pays for bread&butter & for (cloth) napkin only ONCE for each person. If it is added to soup, maindish, salad and desert seperately, it would be the best to add these 20 kronen to the price of the dish . Desert was paltzinky (pancakes) with icecream - THAT was really great ! The rest that I had - see above !

Tip Photo
Bily kun / White Horse: Bily kun - some kind of WATERLOO for Goethe

by globetrott

It is a shame, I did not know about the connection with Goethe and THIS restaurant when I was there.I found out about it by one of my books when I was back.In this place Goethe had his 74th birthday and proposed to a 19 year old baronesse von Levetzow......and was refused. This hotel & restaurant was recently restored and might heve been the better choice than Restaurant Goethe.I will try it next time , and there will be a next time in Loket for sure !!! It does NOT need be a Waterloo for you - as they have great meals there as well...

LIBEREC - Kavarna Posta: a Viennese Kaffeehaus in traditional style

by globetrott

Kavarna Posta is the very best recommandation of a restaurant and cafe I may give you in Liberec. It has the most beautiful interior, I ever saw, it is almost totally empty, maybe the prices are too high for ordinary people in Czechia, maybe I simply was there too early or to late to see them serve any other people.Half of the restaurant was set with cloth-napkins, maybe they expected a group, maybe they simply wanted to be prepared " just in case " Click on my picture in order to see the great details of the interior, that was obviously restored just recently. It is a pity I had a late lunch already in a garden restaurant on main-square, BEFORE I found this lovely place. The service was friendly and quick - 3 people in the service for 1 guest only - me...I had a huge Icecream-cup and an espresso and payed about 3 $

ČERVENÁ TABULKA in Prague: Cozy place and wonderful food

by freemattia

If you are looking for a special place where to have a dinner in a cozy and warm atmosphere, this is a good choice. The prices are correct related to the quality of the food and the service, wich is of a very high standard...we had 2 starters, 2 main courses, 2 desserts and a good bottle of wine for 70 euros. The food is cooked in a creative and original way and well presented.I cannot remember the name of my main course but I remember the ingredients in it, it was fish on a bed of coliflower pate' with orange, pears and mynth...and i promise, it was very good. It's in the center of the city but outside the crowd of the touristic places. It's not the classic czech restaurant, so don't go there if you are looking for goulash or fried trout with chips, but give it a try if you are looking for something special.

staying warm but not too warm

by delcity

i found the best combination for travel to the restraurants in this and nearby countries was a sweater vest with a full sweater over it and a coat or two over that. some time in the places to eat only a vest is enought. a full sweater is too much. other places you may need the vest and sweater both to stay warm in eating places.

Fontana Food Court, Prague: Inexpensive food at shopping centre!

by hopang

When you visit Letnany Shopping Complex to do your shopping, take the opportunity to visit Fontana Food Court to sample some inexpensive fast food. The Food Court has excellent fast food from around the world! Of course we missed Asian food when we were in the Czech Republic. Fortunately we found some Asian restaurants at Fontana Food Court. The food may not be as good as those found in many Asian restaurants in Asia, but they certainly made us happy after the meals! Asian fried rice which we missed in Europe!

Tip Photo
Restaurant KFC, Prague: Fingers licking good!

by hopang

Restaurant KFC does not require much introduction except in countries where there are no KFC restaurants. It is world famous! It is formerly known as Restaurant Kentucky Fried Chicken. Restaurant KFC is one of our favourite restaurants home and abroad. There are not many KFC restaurants in Europe! There are just a few KFC restaurants in Denmark, none in Sweden and Finland and we think none in Italy as well. Its motto "fingers licking good" suggests that it is best to eat the fried chickens with fingers. Basins are usually provided for you to wash your hands before and after your meals. Unlike in Asia where most of the customers eat fried chickens with fingers, we noticed that most of the customers in Europe eat their fried chickens using forks and knives due to hygiene we believe. Its motto becomes baseless in Europe! The food may not be healthy for those who are health conscious due to...
