PRAGUE > La Perle de Prague: Dining with Ginger & Fred

by globetrott

La Perle de Prague is a very special restaurant that was built into the last 2 floors of the so-called "Ginger&Fred-building", that you may see on my picture : It really looks like Ginger Rodgers and Fred Astair dancing. The view on Prague is magnificent and might help you to understand the higher prices, like 190 Kronen ( 6 €uros) for the cheapest soup...More infos, menu and wine-list may be found on my link below !The restaurant is open :Tuesday till Saturday : 12.00 p.m.-02.00 p.m. monday 07.00 p.m.-10.30 p.m. Inside the restaurant, there is absolutely no music, so you may fully concentrate on yourlunch and dinner.Next door, at the bar, you may dance.

PRAGUE / PRAG > Restaurant Rybi Trh: Great restaurants behind the Tyn-church

by globetrott

This great fish-restaurant is situated inside "Týnský dvùr" - the large innercourt behind Tyn-church - where Jazz-music is performed every evening. There are also plenty of other great restaurants and cafes in that court and you may walk around listening to the music, while you do some shopping for marionettes or antiques. The restaurant is open :Daily 11:00a.m. -12:00 midnightLive guitar music : 07.00p.m.-11.00p.m.For more details, see my link below ! This great restaurant serves mainly fish-dishes in a great variety and unfortunately also for quite high prices. But you also should considder the special location in the very centre of Prague and the fact that you may listen to great music, while dining.

PRAGUE / PRAG > King Solomon: Kosher food in Prague

by globetrott

King Solomon for kosher food in the jewish quater of Prague.I did not go inside, but maybe some of my friends on VT are glad to know, that kosher food is available there close to the Maiselova - street. They offer wine from Israel and Maroc. The restaurant is open Sunday-thursday 11.00 a.m. till 11.00 p.m.and friday 11.00 a.m. till 90 minutes before sundown. be prepared, that dishes containing milk, will not be served.Prices are quite high, as the restaurant is in the very centre of town.

PRAGUE > Hanau Pavillion in Letna Park: a romantic cafe restaurant above Prague

by globetrott

This lovely pavillion was once built for the World Exhibition 1891 and was rebuilt in the Letna-Park afterwards and is used as a cafe & restaurant today. It took my attention first for its lovely Art-Nouveau-architecture, and then I saw it is now built at a perfect place to have a great view over Prague from the terrace ! I had a nice breakfast there, - not really cheap, but you also get a great view over Prague with your meal , and when-ever such a restaurant is more expensive than average, you have the best choice of tables there and only a few other guests there !

Tip Photo
PRAGUE > Restaurant U Loretu: a romantic place far behind the Hradzin

by globetrott

This small restaurant with a lovely garden is just a few meters from the famous Loreto-church and monastery, about 1 Km behind the castle of Prague.Strahov monastery and also the romantic side-street Novy Svet are within walking distance. There is almost no car-trafic in that area, a fact that adds a special atmosphere to this garden-restaurant, giving you the feeling to be out in the country-side in a time of the late 1960s.Prices are still moderate there and I had a nice beer there in the garden-restaurant .

Tip Photo
PRAGUE > Restaurant ZOFIN: Dining with style at the Moldau

by globetrott

Restaurant Zofin is situated inside an old palace on the small island opposite of the National Theatre of Prag. It includes large banquet-rooms and a lovely garden-restaurant between lots of old trees, completely surrounded by the park and recreation-area of the island " Slovansky Ostrov " Not a really cheap place, but a really nice restaurant in a great surrounding !! I just had coffe and a cake for a late breakfast in the garden restaurant .But I could see that they have also great halls and siderooms, all with great decorations - that is certainly a great place for a wedding or other festivities. They even have their own car-park on the island in the centre of Prague

KARLOVARSKE OPLATKY: A typical sweet snack in Czechia

by globetrott

It is not really a restaurant, but a place for a quick snack of a very special kind:KARLOVARSKE OPLATKY are 2 Waffles, beeing put togeather, after the nice lady in the counter had put some sort of a spray on them ( most propably it is simply water in order to soften the filling ) The 2 waffles are put into the gridles for a few seconds, and then you get them warm and sweet for 10 Kronen ( 0,30 $ )As a souvenir to take home, they also offer larger boxes of Oplatky - but better try them first before you take them home in large amount. You will find this kind of local desert all over Czech Republik. The lady on my picture has her stand in front of the restaurant "U Bakalare" in Prague

Tip Photo
PRAGUE / PRAG > Vinara certovka: A restaurant with its own traficlight !

by globetrott

This restaurant directely on the shore of the Moldau is unique in 2 ways :1) It offers a great view on the river Moldau / Vlava + the sidearm called " Little Venice "2) You may enter this restaurant only by such very small and narrow steps, that theyhad to install a traficlight for pedestrians. There is a button on each side in order to change the lights. When you click on my picture combination you see on the right the steps with passengers and the green trafic-light Prices are quite high in this place, certainly also due to the excellent location and view on the Charles-bridge.They serve great fish-dishes !Vinara certovkais open daily 11.30 a.m. till midnight

Tip Photo
PRAGUE > Pivnice U Premysla Ottakaru II: Pivnice stands for good & cheap beer

by globetrott

Pivnice U Premysla Ottakaru II is a nice traditional restaurant in the street " Vitezna " , not only a great place to relax and have lunch or dinner, but also with nice traditional architecture !They also have an english and german menu shown in their window.Prices are still moderate, and mostly you will find the local people there. In summer 2003 I just had a quick beer on a really hot day on my way to the cablecar in Petrin-Park.A "Pivnice" is a place to drink beer and have good food in the way Czech people prefer it, and in most cases prices are really cheap !!
