Jalta Hotel Restaurant: Amazing sushi!

by cas_twemlow

This restaurant is part of the Hotel Jalta located on Wencenslas Sqaure in central Prague. We went along because we heard they served sushi there - real sushi, which I haven't had since I left Australia over a year ago!It was amazing! Having lived in Japan for 6 months and eating plenty of sushi back in Oz, it was so lovely to eat really fresh, well prepared sushi....even if we least expected it in Prague! For all fans of the delicacy you will get a really good feed here! A HUGE platter of raw tuna, salmon, squid etc, a bowl of hot rice, miso soup and garnish (wasabi and ginger) will cost you about £10 - I couldn't believe how much I was getting for my money! Large Sushi platter for one. My sister had the smaller one and she couldn't finish it all!

Many different ones just take a look.: Dont miss it.

by tylercdurden2004

Czech food is rarely ever mentioned but they have some fantastic dishes. My favorite is the garlic soup (?esnekov? polevka) which is so yummy I still get cravings for it. Any main course usually contains some type of meat with a sauce and the side of dumplings (knedliky). Of course you must have your meal accompanied by beer and never wine, go to Italy for that. Czech is beer land and I have to say they would be the best if it werent for the Belgians.

Typical Foods

by Svetobeznik

Our national dish is roast pork, dumplings and cabbage, or sweet plum dumplings with poppy seed. But our eating habits have changed and now we eat more foreign food, such as pizza, Chinese cooking, pasta and chips. For lunch we eat hot meals. Lunch has two courses. The first course is soup (noodle, potato, vegetable, mushroom, milk soup). The second courses are varied. Wiener schnitzel (escalope) or smoked meat with potato salad is a typical Sunday lunch. At weekends we bake "buchty" (yeast buns filled with plum jam, cottage cheese or poppy seed baked in the oven) or "babovka" (marble cake). It is no wonder that many Czechs are quite fat.

Pivovar Jihlava: A hedgehog of a place

by richiecdisc

Jihlava is a surprisingly big city and this is a real oasis in the middle of it. Adjacent to the brewery, it's not only a good sized though down to earth restaurant but there's a big beer garden outside, complete with swings and slides for the kiddies. The food was basic Czech fare though it was of a very high quality, and with little modern nuances. The prices were very reasonable too. They also had seven of the brewery's beers on tap and you could buy single bottles in the brewery to go, if you didn't have the gumption to have them all in one go. The beers are labled "Jezak," which is the Czech name for hedgehog, the brewery's symbol.

Looking for a Czech fast food?

by Zuzka

The picture shows a special kind of typical Czech fast food called "chlebicek" (=small bread). These small sendwiches can be with ham, cheese, salami, vegetables. It is very tastful, very cheap (and not healthy).

Bohemian Cuisine: Bohemian Cuisine

Bohemian Roast Pork with self-made dumplings.dessert: Palacinky (kind of pancake) => photo For West Europeans the food in Czech Republic is very cheap. A lot of people cross border to buy food, cigarettes and to refuel their car.

U Botice.: locals place in Prague

by richiecdisc

Very much a local place with authentic if unspectacular food, and tasty reasonable beer. Bacon and pork with bread AND potato knedley (dumplings) for 85 kc ($2.33) and Pilsner Urquell for 19 kc (Fifty cents) for a half liter.

some little restaurance in Litomerice: try the specials

by richiecdisc

This little local place was just off the main square in Litomerice. It was a typical Czech restaurace with the menu not offerend in English or even German. The service was excruciatingly slow but overall, I'd go back in a heartbeat. They had an extensive menu of Czech standards and though inexpensive, the black board items were really cheap. I opted for one of them even though I had no idea what it was. What came out was one of the nicest meals I've had in the Czech Republic. It was more or less a stir fry of red peppers, onions, and pork. It was served with two huge bramboraky (garlic infused potato pancakes). As a bonus, they had a beer I'd never hear of, Zlattopramen, which had a great fruity dry palate and a bittersweet finish.

Tip Photo
Pecene Kure.: Pecene Kure.

by richiecdisc

This is as authentic a Czech experience as you are going to find, it's the very essence of what I love about traveling most. Oh, and the Starobrno beer is as fresh as is possible. This ranks up there as one of the finest beer experiences I have ever had. THere's more information at: www.virtualtourist.com/richiecdisc/brno They have a cold lunch meat counter with fresh bread and hot foods. The best was the tripe soup with its spicy oily broth.

The Collosseum...The Wolfgang Inn: The Collosseum, an Italian...

by rickyvilla81

The Collosseum, an Italian restaurant in the centre near KFC, does the biggest, best and cheapest pasta dishes and believe me, the service is good. Fantastic atmosphere too. You can't come to the Czech Republic and not eat Italian. Otherwise, go to the Wolfgang Inn, an Austrian/Czech place in the old town; not many other customers but quite a posh gaff. The Collosseum's large and spirally but feels cosy and romantic, full of rustic old Italian artefacts and lots of candles. It is always bustling and ambient, it is also downstairs away from the prying eyes of the street. At the Wolfgang, always get the Czech speciality of Chicken with cheese on top, it is gorgeous with roast potatoes. At the Collosseum, the seafood pasta is massive but so are the pizzas - if you want to just eat well and be full, go here. At the street vendors, try a cheeseburger - it's a burger made from cheese, no...
