Save by buying out of Prague

by mbsimjam

Going shopping in Prague just before you take off to Kutna Hora, Cesky Krumlov or Brno? Save it. If it is a common item, such as pottery, crystal and such, you will most definitely find cheaper prices outside the capital. By all means, if you are unsure if you will find that exact item some where else, and just have to have it, buy it, but if you are not looking for anything in particular, exercise your patience and you might even find better quality items for lower prices elsewhere. For example...I could buy a tea set (pottery) in Prague for around 800 kc...while they are around 400-500 in smaller centres.

Various: Now you swing from the chandalier !

by sourbugger

Bohemian glass is available all over the country at broadly similar prices. We found the glassware to be attractive, but not especially different to the thousands of other producers all over the world. We did however fall for the Chandaliers, which come in both traditional and more modern designs. At around 300 Euros, a larger one represented extremely good value, and the thing packed down into quite a small space - the way it all fitted together with everything safe certainly put IKEA to shame ! We bought ours in Karlovy Vary. You can also visit the factories there, which may work out a little cheaper. The shops selling them in Prague were marginally more expensive : probably due to more tourist about and higher costs.

Bargain, bargain, bargain!

by reon80

Russian dolls, the infamous Prague sweatshirt that everyone else you know owns, cheap Bohemian crystal, and lace are all popular tourist favorites well worth their weight in Kroner. Bargain anywhere you go. This is not necessary from a financial standpoint--the exchange rate allows travelers to buy things for literally pennies. However, bargaining is fun and also gets you the rate you SHOULD be paying--so join in the fun! Chances are if youre in a tourist shop and they quote you a price, they'll lower it if you just keep standing there.

Any jewelry shop: Bohemian garnets

by IngaA

There are plenty of big, medium and small shops in Prague where U can buy the beautiful garnets from famous Czech region Bohemia. They are presented in shop windows and U can observe them from the streets. Their beauty is stunning.Men may laugh (smiling) but to my mind, there is no better memory for a woman than some jewelry. At least for me it is better than any food, drink, cloth or anything else, like a souvenir. It is preious and it is forever with us. The prices vary from reasonable (maybe even cheap for Western Europeans) to high (but they are worthwile buying). My set silver of a small ring and ear-rings covered with gold and with garnets of course, cost me about 70USD. I'm glad I have it, it brings me back nice memories.

Slivovice

by Gili_S

Of course before you leave you must buy and take with you home a bottle of Slivovice. That is the famous national drink of the region made of plums.

Local Tobacconists: Buying cigarettes

by FlowerOfScotland

Just a quick tip for those who still smoke, buy cigarettes, for taking home, at the local tobacconists in Prague, their prices are cheaper than the duty-free shop at the airport. Happy puffing.

Marionnette

by Jimmy_Stimm

Prague is famous for it's Marionnettes. Shops line the allies with all sorts of Marionnettes for sale. If there is one souvinier to bring back from Prague it would be a Marionnette.
