Get to Sedlec by car & search for KOSTNICE !!

by globetrott Updated Jan 1, 2015

Get to Sedlec by car & search for KOSTNICE !!

It certainly makes sense to hire a car or get to Sedlec with your own car, especially when you intend to visit some other places of interest in the same area like Chrudim / Hradec Kralove / Pardubice and Litomisl.
When arriving by car you will find plenty of good places to park your vehicle, and perfect signposts leading you to the bonechurch.
You simply follow the signposts for "Kostnice" - that is the local expression for the bonechurch !!!

On my map in my picture you see :
    1 The bonechurch in Sedlec
2 St.Barbara Cathedral in Kutna Hora
3 the Welsh court in Kutna Hora

The green dot next to bone church is a roundabout, where you have to follow the signs for " KOSTNICE " ( the Czech name for the bonehouse )

Rent a car in Sedlec and Kutna Hora

by globetrott Updated Dec 31, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is absolutely no need to rent a car in order to explore just Sedlec & Kutna Hora, BUT when you plan to spend some days in that area around Sedlec and Kutna Hora it might make sense to rent a car in Kutna Hora instead of Prague in order to avoid the heavy trafic around Prague !

Tours to the Bone-church from Prague / Prag

by globetrott Written Dec 31, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

How to get there in case you are based in Prague / Prag:
Each tourbus-company in Prague offers halfday- or fullday excursions to Kutna Hora & the famous Bone-church in Sedlec. They will cost around 900 Kronen and you will visit mainly the St.Barbara cathedral in Kutna Hora and the bone-church in Sedlec.
It is a bit more expensive than going on your own by train, but might be easier, than organizing it all by yourself.
On the other hand there is a lot more to see and maybe you like to do it all by yourself, as the trains are really cheap in Czechia !

    Good news for handicapped people

by globetrott Written Dec 31, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I have visited the bone-church in 2003 and again in 2004 and it was really nice to see, that they have added a brand new lift for handicapped people for the stairs from the church entrance down to the main attractions.
There are about 25 rather steep steps to walk down and this lift is in fact the only chance for people travelling in a wheel-chair.Just ask for assistance at the ticket-desk.

All the way from the parking to the cemetery should be NO problem for a wheelchair and the paths inside the cemetery are also rather even.

HOW TO REACH THE BONE CHURCH

by balhannah Updated Jan 8, 2014

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As it happened, we stayed overnight in Kutna Hora, so in the morning we drove our car to the Church.
Even if you haven't a car, the Bone Church is easy to reach.

Many people make it a day trip from Prague as Kutna Hora is only 70km away.

TRAINS arrive at Kutná Hora main station (Kutná Hora hl.n.), then all you have to do is walk 10mins to the Church. A fast train will take about 1 hour from Prague. The price is the same for both fast and slow train, so choose the R, IC or EC fast trains where possible. There are several direct trains each day and many more connections where you change Trains at Kolín.

BUSES leave from Prague’s Florenc bus station and take approx 1hr 15min -1hr 30 to Kutná Hora and the prices are similar to the trains. They arrive at the main bus station, which is a short walk from the centre of Kutná Hora but too far to walk to the Bone Church

TAXI The fares are clearly displayed at Kutna Hora.
You can usually find a taxi or two on the town square or the train station, or you can call one by phone.
    KUTNA HORA TAXI
    Josef Machaj, tel. 777 239 909, 777 564 568, 602 202 502, non-stop
    Michal Štursa, tel. 774 644 346, non-stop
    Martin Havlíèek, tel. 604 687 220

CAR From Prague - Follow the D11 motorway to Exit 39 Podebrady-jih then go by highway no.38 via Kolin (approximately 80 km)

TOURIST BUS - A mini-bus parks just by the Bone Church and connects Sedlec with the centre of Kutná Hora and the church of St. Barbara. Sedlec is 2.5kms from the centre of Kutna Hora.
Ticket price: 35,- CZK / person.
More information can be found out at the Information centre at Sedlec.

    Getting to the Ossuary

by GentleSpirit Written Oct 30, 2012

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You would take the train from Prague to Kutna Hora hlavni nadrazi, the main station.

From there you can take the tourist bus, which costs 35 CK.
Otherwise take city bus #1 which will drop you off around the corner from the ossuary.
Otherwise, you can walk, it is 2.5 kilometres and shouldn't take more than a half hour.

    to get back
    any of the above...or
train from Kutná Hora Město to Kutná Hora Hlavní nádraží

    Train plus feet

by leics Written Apr 4, 2010

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Easiest way is by train to Kutna Hora from Prague's Hvladni Nadrazi station.

Ticket office staff (it's a very swish ticket office!) speak enough English to organise a return ticket for you (very cheap).

Train takes around an hour and, usefully, your ticket will list intervening stations so you don't need to worry about getting off at the wrong place.

Having got off the train, turn right at the station exit, turn left just before the elevated section of the road and walk along the rather dreary main road until you come to a huge church on the left (Nanebevzeti Panny Marie).

Cross the road and either walk up the small road opposite, or do what we did and follow the signs (see photo) past a row of garages and along a muddy pathway to the ossuary.

It's about 10 minutes walk from the station to the ossuary.

To get into Kutna Hora proper carry on down the main road. It's a good way, though fairly easy to navigate, and takes around 35 minutes.

Turn right here. Spot the ossuary and chapel.... A giveaway sign on the wall.......

    Train from Prague

by illumina Written Feb 26, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It's pretty easy to get to Sedlec from Prague - just get the train to Kutna Hora main station (hlavní nádraží), and then have a quick look at the tourist info map in the underpass in the station, this will show you where to go. It's probably a ten minute walk. There are buses from the station as well, but it's so easy to walk, why bother? You might want to consider the bus or a connecting train to the centre of Kutna Hora, but the bone church is nearer to the main station than the centre of town.

To the Bone Church from the Train Station

    by Jasen71 Updated Feb 23, 2006

It is about 1km from the Train Station, and is towards the main town of Kutna Hora, as you past a large church to your right.. cross over the road and head up, and you'll find the church of bones ahead of you.. simple.. No need to go into Kutna Hora, and back out again if you only wish to see the Bone Church.
