Cesky Krumlov Castle & Gardens

A quick walk through town and up the hill gets you to the castle. You can see the brown bears, climb a tower for a great view, visit stores, walk around the castle and go to its large and beautiful gardens. Well worth doing.

The Moving Memorial of Lidice

by rvenezia

On June 10, 1942 one of World War II's saddest events happened. Two weeks before on May 27, 1942 Reichprotector of Bohemia & Moravia and architect of the Final Solution of the Jewish Question was mortally wounded by two British trained Czechslovakian paratroopers outside of Prague. Hitler demanded revenge and the small Czech mining village of Lidice was selected. German SD soldiers surrounded the village on the night of June 9th. The orders were as follows - Execute all adult men and boys. - Transport all women to a concentration camp in Germany - Gather the children suitable for Germanization. The others would be "resettled"- Raze the village and level it entirely The massacre that happened on the nights of June 9-10 shocked the world. 174 men and boys were executed in the Horak Farm. 19 more would be killed the next day bringing the total number of victims to 193. 82 of the Children...

The Brewery Museum in Pilsen

by Paul2001

For me probably one of the most fun museums I visited was the Brewery Museum in Pilsen. The museum tells the history of the brewing of beer both locally in the Pilsen area and since the beginning of beer drinking period. The museum also gives you some idea on how beer is actually brewed and has been brewed through out history. There are tons of artifacts on displace and some wonderful lifesize dioramas all of which are captioned in English. The museum is in a fine 15th century German house.Entry into the museum is 60kc. It is open from 10am to 6pm daily.

My choice landscape areas

by 68maciek

If you prefer nature overcrowded Praha is not a place for 3 days in my opinion. If I were you i would consider only one long and full day in Praha. My tips:I was amazed by Pravicka Brama (in the evening- as no tourists there) in Saxon-Czech Switzerland. Tiske steny were ok as well.I wish I found a quite village Arnoltice with a delicious and simple local food restaurant (no tourist only locals) and one pension earlier instad if staying in old fashion camping in one of tourist villages (but it was high season time in July). The next area with unusual landscapes was Czesky Raj (Paradise).Stara Skola pension in Krckovice was my excellent choice for accommodation(close to Hruba Skala)The way between these two areas was also pretty scenic. Both are built from sandstones.Sumava is a pretty wild area with forests. Also Krivoklat area is pretty wild (hills and forests) for me.

Beskydy mountains and Wallachia

by swetluska

Call me prejudiced for spending my childhood here, but this is one of the most beuatiful parts of CZ. Wallachia is attractive by its unique style of wooden cottages and churches, as well as its lively folklore traditions. Hiking the mountain trails offers breathtakingly wild scenery, which looks fantastic throughout all the year. During the winter season excellent conditions are available for downhill skiers, as well as tens of kilometres of cross-country trails. What to seeRoznov pod Radhostem with the Wooden townLysa Hora and Javronik for hikingPustevny for hiking and beautiful old housesNovy Jicin with castle of Stary JicinOstravaHukvaldyTarzanie - high ropes centreCheck also this and this site

Of all regions within CZ, the region of Plzen boasts of most natural parks. What to see:PlzenKrivoklatSumavaCerne jezero (Black lake) - the biggest one in CZFor more info check this page.
