    Subway in Prague
    by hopang
Prague metro is a most convenient rapid transit system in the city of Prague. It is clean, fast and efficient. Nevertheless it is not operating throughout the night. Its operating hours are between 5.00 a.m. and midnight daily. Visitors will have to use taxi, tram and bus services between midnight and 5.00 a.m. if they want to enjoy some of Prague's impressive nightlife!

More than 500 million passengers use Prague metro every year. Thus it is the 6th busiest subway system in Europe! Prague metro system is mainly built by the Soviet using the old standard rolling stock.

Prague metro began its business operations in 1974 and has a total of almost 60 stations with a total track length of approximately 60 kilometers. It is operated by Dopravni podnik hlavniho mesta Prahy (Prague Public Transit Company Inc) which also operates the city's tram and bus services.

Prague metro system has three lines, differentiated by its colours, i.e green for line A, yellow for line B and red for line C. All three lines meet at the city centre interchange stations forming a triangle. Lines A and C meet at Museum station which is located at upper end of Wenceslas Square, lines A and B at Mustek station located at lower end of Wenceslas Square and lines B and C meet at Florenc station located at the main bus station.

A single basic ticket costs 26 CZK for a 75 minute ride. However a limited non transfer ticket costs just 18 CZK for a 30 minute ride. You may also purchase a three day ticket valid for 72 hours at 330 CZK per ticket. This is more economical and more suitable for foreign tourists who intend to stay in Prague for three or more days!

    Boat cruise along Vitava River
    in Prague
    by hopang
Prague boat cruise along the scenic Vitava River is an ideal and wonderful way to see the city of Prague from different perspective, i.e. from the river. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city of Prague which attracts thousands of local and foreign tourists every day!

There are several tour operators to choose from and one of the most popular tour operators is Prazska Paroplaveloni Spolecnost, A.S. You can obtain more information regarding their river cruise from their website below. You may also e-mail to the following address for further information regarding their boat cruise:- pps@paroplavba.cz.

Nevertheless most boat tours can be purchased in packages, i.e. including lunch and music or exciting night dinner cruise. The tour usually lasts between one and four hours and costs as low as 10.00 euros per adult to as high as 80.00 euros per adult depending on which tour you choose! Many boats have restaurants, lounge and bar onboard.

  • This is such an cheap / tourist friendly option to get to and from anywhere in Prague. A ticket that will last you 24hrs will cost you anout £1! It's amazingly cheap and it means that you can hope on and off the Metro, buses and trams as often as you like in 24hrs. They also sell them by the hour or 12hrs. BARGAIN!

Munich to Praha by train easy but also frugal way

  • "Bayern-Böhmen Ticket" sold in Germany is the best way. All trains from Munich to Praha are local trains; so if the train is departing later than 9:00AM (no limit on weekends), "Bayern-Böhmen Ticket" will take from two up to five people for the same price till Plzen. Single travelers can take advantage of "Bayern-Böhmen Ticket Single".

"Bayern-Böhmen Ticket" is valid entire day from 9:00 AM in all Bavaria and in CZ till Plzen and covers up to 5 people for under 35 Euro TOTAL. (32 Euro from ticket automat, 34 Euro from the DB agent).

"Bayern-Böhmen Ticket Single" is valid entire day from 9:00 AM in all Bavaria and in CZ till Plzen for a single person (22 Euro from ticket automat, 24 Euro from the DB agent).

    http://www.bahn.de/regio_ostbayern/view/guenstig_nach_tschechien.shtml
(there is no English reference to it, sorry)

The traveler will also need to buy Plzen-Praha ticket on the train from the Czech conductor. It will cost 109 Czech Crowns + 20 Crown handling fee because you are buying on the train. The total will be ca. 130 Crowns which is under 5 Euro (/person).

To make the transaction smooth, buy some Czech Crowns in Munich - even if the rate in Munich for Czech Crowns at the bank is not that good, it is still 3 times cheaper than an Czech ticket would cost in Munich at the station.

Do not buy any other ticket in Munich, only the "Bayern-Böhmen Ticket" which will cover all of you unless you are single (then buy "Bayern-Böhmen Ticket" single which is less) or if you are a larger group than 5 people (in that case break it up).

The trains are not crowded, no reservation is needed, they are like "walk-in". It's like a public bus, just larger and with compartments. Nothing to reserve.

This way typically a couple will pay 17+5 = 22 Euro pro person between Munich and Praha and a single traveler 24 + 5 = 29 Euro.

  • Entrance the towns in the Czech Republic you can see the label with name of each village/town. But that label doesn't mean only the name for this or that town.It also says, that you should slow-down. If traffic signs don't display another speed limit, the speed in town is max. 50 km/h / 31 mph.

I don't wonder, why there are so many serious crash accidants on the highways. Drivers don't axcept the speed limit 130 km/h / 81 mph. Many times driving a car by this speed I was overtaken. Why? What do other drivers want to say? - Let me go, because my car is better - or - Let me go, because I don't have time?

Highways also lead through the towns. The limited speed for them is used to be up to 90 km/h / 56 mph. The same is valid for the roads out of towns.

If the trafic sign doesn't say "bez poplatku" (no fee) using a motorway or highway signed like D1, D2,..... and expressways signed as R35, R46 and so on you have to pay:

For a period of 7 consecutive days (D) - motor vehicle or set of vehicles
    - total weight under 3.5 tons 220,- CZK
    - total weight from 3.5 tons to 12 tons 750,- CZK

For one calendar month (M) - motor vehicle or set of vehicles
    - total weight under 3.5 tons 330,- CZK
    - total weight from 3.5 tons to up to 12 tons 2,000,- CZK

For one calendar year or since December 1, 2008 till January 30, 2010 - motor vehicle or set of vehicles
    - total weight under 3.5 tons 1000,- CZK
    - total weight from 3.5 tons to 12 tons 8.000,- CZK

Electronic toll - In Czech language "MYTO"(please, read "meet-oh"):

There's one more category of vehicles - 12 tons (12,000 kg)and more. This group doesn't have to have a time-limited stickers fixed on the left-lower corner of front window of a vehicle (see the pic) but this group is liable to paying of the electronic toll-MYTO on highways, speedways and chosen roads of the first class. If you drive a such vehicle and mean to come to the Czech republic or cross it or want to know more, please follow this link.

Motobikers are the only one group who don't need to pay for using parkways at all.
