Hrensko & Pravcicka Brana is just 10km from Decin

Hrensko / Hernskretschen is a small village directely on the border between Czechia and Germany, 10 Km north of the town DECIN and about 20 Km south-east of Dresden / Germany
In the surroundigs of Hrensko you will find some really great wonders of nature : Pravcicka Brana / Prebischtor .
You will need about 1,5 hours to walk a distance of 4 Km from the parking through the woods in order to get finally to Prebischtor.
There you have to pay a small entrance-fee, before you are allowed to take a closer look at Pravcicka Brana or enter the restaurant. The best view on Pravcicka Brana / Prebischtor is from a rock opposite of it.
You have to climb up lots of steps behind the restaurant in order to get to this great place.
This natural arch is 21 meters high and 26 meters wide - the biggest of it's kind in Europe - only in the United States are some larger natural arches to be found.

A big part of the importance of Hrensko is the river Labe, where cruiseships will pass by on their way to Hamburg via Dresden, or southwards to places like Decin, Melnik and Prague.
Hrensko is also a popular place to fill up gasoline, before tourists are leaving for Germany.

You may take a cruiseship or the train to get to Hrensko. The trainstation is on the left bank of the river and a ferry will take you over to the village, beeing on the right bank.
You may also take road # 62 from Decin.

Usti nad Labem - just a few km from Decin

Usti nad Labem - just a few km from Decin

Usti nad Labem / Aussig is an important town with 98000 inhabitants in the north of the Czech Republik. The main train-line betweeen Prague and Dresden will go through Usti nad Labem, beautifully situated at the river Elbe , called Labe in Czechia.
Usti nad Labem is the most important port on the river Elbe, just after Hamburg.
The castle on my picture is Strekov / Schreckenstein, and it dates back to the 14th century and was used as a toll-station for the merchants transporting their goods on the river Elbe.
You may get to Usti nad Labem by train or by cruise-ship. Roads in that area are a total mess : a highway is under construction and the signs of deviations sometimes keep you sending around in a circle...
    -----------------------------------
    Strekov castle is open daily
from May till August : 09.00a.m.-05.00p.m.
    in september&October: 09.00a.m.-04.00p.m.

they have a nice museum of trains in Zubrnice in the old trainstation. It is not open all year, but between may and september only. It was a nice excursion for me from Decin, where I stayed in a small private Bed&Breakfasthotel.

    Evangelic church

The Parish church of the evangelic Bohemian Brethren congregation is located in Decin-Podmokly at the busy Teplicka street (adress is Bezrucova 4, though). It was built on a slightly elevated terrace above the street with stairs leading up to the entrance. Architect was G. L. Möckel, a German architect from neighbouring Saxony who preferred Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic styles - and it shows. Quite typical for the time it was erected - 1884.

The church is not in best shape and the stairs from the street up to the entrance are quite dangerous IMO. Services on Sundays 10 am in summer only. As expected the doors were closed when I visited.
