Tabor is a lovely medieval town, north of C.Budejovice - on your way to Prague, when coming from Linz/Austria.

On my picture you see a small part of the great town-square and the townhall, that has a rather unique clock on the tower, showing all 24 hours of the day.

I will have a seperate page about Tabor soon !

Valtice castle is only about 7km from Lednice castle and a visit there may easily be combined with Valtice.

The castle still needs a lot of restorations inside, but it has already a nice hotel in the left wing of the castle :
    Hotel Hubertus

Lednice / with the old german name Eisgrub is a really great and beautiful castle, where you may even take photographs inside the castle against a small fee !
You may only take a GUIDED tour through the castle and there are 2 different tours -each is about 1 hour) offered.
That way you might need almost the whole afternoon for the castle and the big park around it.

Lednice is about 75 km north of Vienna, 30 km south of Brno / Brünn and about 80km east of Telc.
I will have a seperate page about Lednice soon !!

Have a look where to find it on the link below !

Mikulov / Nikolsburg is the first town after the border between Austria and Czechia.
There is a great castle as well, a big thomb that looks rather like a church, a lovely house with graffitis and a jewish cemetery.

I will have a seperate page about Mikulov soon !
On the link below, you may see, where to find Mikulov - simply use the ZOOM !!

    by globetrott
Znojmo / Znaim is a small town of 39.ooo inhabitants and mainly famous for its wine and for its pickeled cucumbers ( the famous Znaimer Gurkerl )
On the way from Vienna to Prague you will pass by Znaim and it will be worth a visit .
On my picture you see the theatre of Znojmo.
There is also a great town-square and the lovely tower of the townhall, lots of great buildings and the castle.

1-2 hours should be enough to explore the city, especially when you are lucky to catch the small sight-seeing-train getting you to all places of interest.

Jihlava / Iglau - east of Telc
    by globetrott
One of my grandmothers came from Milicov - close to Jihlava / Iglau.
For that reason I came there already once in communiste times, about 1978 in order to search for relatives. We stayed in a hotel in Jihlava and I was really impressed by the great town-square of the 1st city I could explore in Tschechoslovakia.

When I returned in summer 2004 I have to admit, it was nice, especially the old tower of the wall, but on the total - and after having seen so many much more beautiful towns in Czechia - I was a bit disappointed...

BUT, when you are in Telc already and have some time left, why not going to Jihlava as well, especially, when you will not have enough time to explore other , more beautiful places .

Have a look at this lovely water-castle of Cervena Lhota.
It is a pity I was there on a monday, and the interior of the castle was not open.
Anyway it was a nice place to take a walk around the lovely lake, watch the swans and storks.

I will have a seperate page about this castle soon !
It is about 40 Km west of Telc and 20 km east of C.Budejovice - BUT unfortunately the streets to the castle are rather small and signs are a bit confusing sometimes !

Watch out for the great cathedral and the old monastery around it - on my pic you see one of the entrance-gates to the monastery !

I will have a seperate page about this place soon !

    by globetrott
Jindrichuv Hradec / Neuhaus is a small town of 22.000 inhabitants, west of Telc.
Take a guided tour through the castle to see great works of art, gobelins, frescos and precious porcelain.
Have a look as well at the garden-pavillion, where 4,5 kg gold were used for the decoration of the building in the 16th century.
Have a look for the lovely town-square as well !

    Lysice - north of Telc
    by globetrott
Lysice castle once belonged to Erwin Dubsky, an early globetrotter of the 19th century and a big part of the furniture and decorations in the castle still remind of his time as an admiral and world-traveller.
My favorite was the japanese saloon !

The library of Marie von Ebner Eschenbach is certainly one of the highlights of the tour though the castle.
Ebner-Eschenbach was born as countess Maria Dubska, niece of Edwin Dubsky .

Photography is allowed INside the castle, against a small extra-fee , and so you will find plenty of infos and pics on my Lysice-page !
