    Telc Favorites

Renaissance architecture of the 16th century is easy to spot as soon as you have an idea what to look for. There is a notable amount among the houses in the main square. Here are some general hints how to recognize it. Photo 1 and 2: A typical feature is the high attika instead of a gable, a solid wall with a horizontal top adorned with...

  • Telc Palace: The Courtyards

    Telc Things to Do

The courtyards of the palace can be entered for free while you need a guided tour to see the interior. They got their shape when the formerly gothic castle was remodeled into a renaissance palace under Zacharias of Hradec in the 1550s. The main courtyard has arcades and galleries on three sides. The style tells of the Italan origins of this...

  • Jewish Quarter: Overview

    Trebic Things to Do

The Jewish quarter is located on the left bank of Jihlava river, opposite the 'main' town. This area on the outside bank of the river bed has always been prone to floodings, hence it was considered good enough for the Jews while the Christian population would not want to build their houses there. The first Jews settled here in the 16th century, but...

  • Jewish Quarter: The Synagogue Museum

    Trebic Things to Do

Zadní synagoga, the 'rear' synagogue, is a building from the late 16th century that served for religious functions for about 350 years. After the end of the Jewish community it stood empty but unharmed until it was restored in the 1990s, and turned into a concert hall and museum. There are no services held in it any more. On the women's gallery...

  • The Palace, Former Convent Buildings

    Trebic Things to Do

The former convent buildings of the Benedictine abbey were turned into a worldly palace after the monks had left in the 16th century. The palace was owned and inhabited by the noble family of Valdstejn (Waldstein, Wallenstein - yes, the guy who played such an important role in the 30 Years War was one of them) until 1945. Nowadays the complex is...

    Zelena Hora Things to Do

Five oval and five triangular chapels alternate around its circumference - the number five symbolizes Saint John of Nepomuk (the number of stars seens after the saint's death). You can also have a look inside the church - but it was closed in the time when I was there and so I could take no pictures from inside - and I saw also signs showing me "NO...

  • CASTLE JAROMERICE

Jaromerice nad Rokytnou Things to Do

It always amazed me when we came into small Town, and there was a giantic Castle towering above the house's. Castle Jaromerice wasn't on any cliff or rock face, but right in the Town Centre.Built in Baroque style between 1700 & 1737, it replaced a Renaissance 16th century medieval fortress. The Castle was owned by a prominent Jaromerice family,...

You can view it from the outside street, or in the Castle garden's, which I think is nicer, but to enter the inside of this Baroque Cathedral, you have to pay to do a tour and enter from the inside of the complex."TOUR " C"# April, October .............. 9 - 4PM...

On entering through the front gates, I went straight to the Castle reception area to find out about seeing the inside of Castle. We had to wait for tours, so the guide suggested seeing the gardens first, as we were allowed to wander around on our own, and they were FREE.In-between the years 1709-1737, when the new Castle was built, so were the...

  • Eating in Jihlava?

    Jihlava Restaurants

Well.... according to my experience, when being hungry, its better to eat somewhere else then in Jihlava. If it has to be in the town, then the best possibility is probably Mc Donald. We were in Jihlava in Sunday and wanted some place for lunch. Good place to search seemed to be the main square. Hm. Almost all restaurants were CLOSED (it was 12:00)....

The highest peak of the Pelhrimov Region (767 metres above the sea level) and a pilgrimage site. Several monuments can be found there. A chapel with a periodic spring with slightly radioactive healing water (running in spring and autumn). The Way of the Cross connecting the chapel with the top of the peak. Another place of interest is the patio of St Trinity Church with two chapels. Atop Kremesnik you can find a hotel, Wind Chateau, and a lookout tower (the whole of Bohemia as far as the Krkonose Mountains can be seen from it).
