Pick-pockets!

by FinElina

During my last trip (2000) there were a lot of pick-pockets and thieves! Especially on the famous Charles bridge even little children are trained to steal purses and wallets! In year 2000 there were also passport-thieves at the airport of Prague but I guess the situation has changed from those days...

Don't have yours, please!

by Zajem

On Feb 1st 2006 I was in hurry going by car to work - I drove by 73 km/h instead of 50km/h (in a village) and, of course, was stopped by Police. How my speeding ticket given by Czech traffic Police looks like you can see in the pic. Don't have yours, please! More info about the traffic in my country you can read in my Trasportation tips for Czech Republic.

by spicypepper21

Absyinth is an alcohol that is illegal in the United States. It is know to have a liquid form of LCD that causes you to hallucinate. Its is 70 percent alcohol and tastes a bit like black licorice. It is sold all over Czech as well as in the bars...all I have to say is be careful..it alters your judgement and makes it very hard to function. Women this is especially for you...be careful drinking this and watch who you are with

Cons & Scams

by Svetobeznik

TaxiTaking a taxi on streets in city center or attractive places such as the airport or railway stations can result in payment of high amounts. It is advisable to call taxi phone services. Money exchangeYou may be approached on the street by people /males/ offering you bargain exchange of money at rates higher than official rates. The money offered by these people are either fake or of other currency. You may find exchange offices offering high exchange rates with high hidden commissions. Usually you can not take the exchange back. One of the companies on which several articles about unsatisfied clients have been written is CHEQUEPOINT. Banks are recommended for money exchange. In case of exchange offices it is advisable to ask for the real amount of money received. Scams?

by skullcrusher

I had heard a lot of stories of tourists being scammed in Prague. I personally never experienced anything like a scam. I'm sure that I probably paid more for some things than the locals did, but I've been to places MUCH worse when it comes to outright scam attempts. From my experience the scam talk is mostly hype.**Taxi drivers all over the world are scammers- this isn't a problem that's solely Czech.

Worse than sunset boulevard

by sourbugger

Northern Czech republic must have thousand of hookers all over the roads, or rather on the verges. They are obviously satisfying a large amount of trade - mainly from Germany. It's all somewhat sad - especially when you consider the age some of the girls must be.The only real danger is that the eyes of the driver in front may be averted for rather obvious reasons - or your own if you really must look a busty blonde in a pair of pink hotpants at 8.30 AM in the morning. As the song goes...keep your eyes on the road John.....

Traffic cops - it will cost you!

by sourbugger

Traffic cops are very keen to get their pound of flesh out of foriegn drivers.Speed traps are especially common at the entrance to towns when the speed limit reduces quickly.I was caught outside Marianske Lazne, but as the two cops who came over were a stunning blonde and brunette with guns in white holsters and skirts that were I'm sure well above the knee, I almost (let's face it I did) enjoy the experience - much to my wife´s disgust.Seven quid later I was on my way.Just remember to be nice and smile - it's not going to cost you an arm and a leg, especially if you insist on a receipt. Also be careful of making a U-turn on a major road and entering a pedestrian zone (the sign is not obvious). I wriggled out of it on those occasions, but I'm not banking on it again.

HAWKERS.

by GrantBoone

In and around the main train station you could be approached by what are known as Hawkers. These people will claim to be able to find you very cheap accomodation for the night. Be very wary of these people and when possible always go through official tourist centres.

Pickpockets

by Snoppy

Prague is a great city and well worth visiting. Great for stag weekends, the women there are the most beautiful I've seen, you have to see it to believe it. Beer is very cheap (40p), in most areas. Lads, be careful if your going to stripshows most of the places are basically brothels. Also be very alert on the streets as you'll get the occasional scruffy women coming on to you, touching you up when your drunk, when really they're groping your inner pockets for your wallets, as unfortunately one of my mates found out to his expense (though he wasn't very streetwise).

Breclav is generally a safe town, anyway...

by diamond7

… don't leave your bags alone any place in the centre of the city, mainly in the rail station. I didn't see anything stranger about this, but I was advised some times to be more careful just by the local people
