Luhacovice Things to Do

  • THE SPA PARK

Even if you are just here for a few hours, this is a must see area. There is a canal running through the park, with several bridges crossing it, lovely gardens, Ducks, Birds, a lovely small Chapel, and of course, the beautiful Villa's.There are Cafe's and Restaurant's, or bring your own, as there is plenty of seating in this very, relaxing area. No...

  • LEOSE JANACKA

Leose Janacka is the name of the street that I walked from end to end. I have tried to find information on all the Villa's, but haven't been able to. There were many that had lovely frescoes, different to what I had seen elsewhere. You can walk to here on a pathway from the Spa Park.In my opinion, this street is a must to walk. The photo's are of...

  • VILLA WITH PHARMACY

This Villa, originally Villa Austria, is older than the others, being built between 1884-1886.This was the villa of a pharmacist and operator of a mineral water shipping company. It also is built in Neo-renaissance style, and has a diagonally positioned corner tower featuring Alpine architecture, including carved wood, balconies and gable ends. The...

  • AUGUSTINIAN HOUSE

This is another beautiful Hotel I found in Luhacovice. It was also built in the years 1902 – 1904. Looks like these were the years that the Spa industry took off!The architect of this house, used quarry stone and a combination of the neo-renaissance style of the main bulding, and a neo-classic style for the chapel. The house was built for the...

  • VILLA JESTRABI

This was the 1st beautiful Villa I encountered on my walk along Leose Janacka. Wow! How beautiful it was!The Villa was built between the years 1902-1903. Like many others, it is half-timbered only on the top floor. Formerly, a spa pension, it is now a hotel. The villa underwent major repairs in 2000 and its exterior design corresponds to Dusan...

  • VINCENTKA HALL

The most famous spring in Luhacovice is Vincentka. It's unbelievable, that it was as late as 1991, before the mineral spring water was bottled! The water bubbles up behind the colonnade, where it is collected from an eight-metre well. Vincentka water can be tried right in the Vincentka Hall.It is described as....." cold, medicinal, natural, mildly...

  • COLONNADE AT SPA PARK

The long, curved Colonnade at the Spa Park was built between 1946 and 1952.Walking along here, I found many souvenir shops and other retail stores. One in particular of interest, was the shop that sold a huge array of Czech Porcelain in various forms. Very pretty, and interesting! The southern section of the colonnades features halls with springs...

  • THE BRUSSEL'S FOUNTAIN

The Brussel's fountain I found located infront of the Dum B. Smetany Hotel. This was a very "different" fountain! The fountain itself, is in the centre of three sculpture's of goddesse's, then, around the pavement, is artwork done in tile's of crustacen's and Fish. I have no idea why they are there! This fountain, was originally created by Jan Kavan...

  • DUM B. SMETANY HOTEL

The Dum B. Smetany Hotel, is another luxurious Hotel in the Spa Park. It is a 4* Hotel, built in Art Nouveau style. To me, it looked a bit drab, a coat of paint would make it a very attractive Hotel.Evidently, it is popular because of its 30's atmosphere. It has a Restaurant, which is open all day, a cocktail lounge with an open air terrace. It is...

When I saw the amazing Jurkovic House, I just stood, and stared! Wow! It was beautiful! It is a remodelled version of a house that was built in 1822 on this site. The architect, Dusan Jurkovic, built most of the wonderful buildings that I will describe in future tips, and it was he, who in 1902, remodelled this House. Since then, between 2000 and...
