Roznov pod Radhostem - the mill-valley

by globetrott

There are 3 different museums of old houses and I may highly recommend that you start first with the Mill-valley, simply because You may see it ONLY by a guided tour at fixed times.Get to the gate at the Mill valley in time - there is also a small kiosk with snacks and big tables to eat and drink, while you are waiting for your tourguide. The whole tour through the Mill-valley will take about 60 minutes and will include demonstrations of all major technical devices. There will be several people from the staff in order to show you the mills in full funktion and you will see that such a mill was quite a loud and dusty place.

the old K&K Postamt / the austrian postoffice

by globetrott

This sign dates back to the time, when Czechia was still a part of the Austrian empire and all signs had Czech and German inscriptions.K&K ment "Kaiserlich und Königlich" - so it was the post-office of the emperor and the king. You may walk inside the former postoffice and it is used as a souvenir-shop today, where you may buy postcards, booklets and are also able to post your postcards. The interior of the old post-office looks nice as well, but the lady in there did not allow me to make a picture... :-(((

Roznov pod Radhostem - the old grocery

by globetrott

The old grocery is inside the openair-museum, called "Little Wooden town / Drevene mestecko" in Roznov pod radhostem. It is worth seeing for various reasons, and it is great to see such a place again after all of the years with modern supermarkets only...Click on my picture and you will see on the left a big glass with pickeled cucumbers that were sold one by one, and the old-fashioned scale, still totally working without batteries, computer-chips and software.Unfortunately you may not really enter the grocery , but have to stay behind a fence and have a look through. It certainly would have been nice to see such a place " working " the way it was in the old times...

Roznov pod Radhostem - an old merry-go-round

by globetrott

In the very back of the wooden village you will see this old, romantic merry-go-round and like in the old days you may take a seat and will need someone to take one of the big handles and make the whole construction turn around. There is NO electric- or steam-engine, everything works only by muscular-power.You may use it free of charge and it might be a really funny thing to remeber for children, as today they are mostly just used to a completely other kind of amusement...

Roznov pod Radhostem > funny bee-hives

by globetrott

In the back of the "wooden village-museum" in Roznov pod Radhostem you may see a row of maybe 12 bee-hives, that were built in a really funny way into big trunks. The production of honey was a good chance for farmers to have some extra income and of course honey was also used as a medicine in these days. When you click on my picture you will these really funny faces that are used to make the holes, where the bees would fly in and out.

Roznov p.Radhostem - The windmill from Kladnik

by globetrott

This wooden wind-mill was originally situated in a village called Kladniky and it had 15 owners before it was rebuilt in the Vallachia-village-museum in Roznov pod Radhostem.Inside the mill you may see the original grinding machine and the whole mill was able to turn around in a circle in order to get the best use of the winds. At the original location in Kladniky the mill included a dwellinghouse and farm buildings and 4 hectares of ground.Through a fence you may look inside the mill and see the grinding-machine and its accesories. The windmill is a bit off the main path and might easily be overseen !

Roznov p.R. > The Wallachian Village - museum

by globetrott

You really get the feeling to walk through an old village , where people are still living and working in the traditional way.The building on my picture with the nice garden in front is such an excample :This Peasant farmstead was an original dwelling-house, barn and cellar with hayloft and was originally built in Horni Becva in the end of the 19th century. It was de-constructed 20 years ago and rebuilt again in the museum .The garden needs a fence in the open-air-museum because of the many sheep, ducks and goats running freely through the museum - giving you even more the feeling to be in a real farm-village !For more infos and pics about this museum - please click on my link below !

Roznov pod Radhostem - 60km east of Brno

by globetrott

Roznov pod Radhostem / Rosenau am Radegast is a small town about 60 km east of Brno .The major attraction of that town is a large museum of old wooden houses, that were taken down at many places all over Czechia and were rebuilt in Roznov in a way that you get the feeling to be inside an old village. The museum consists of 3 parts that you may visit seperately or with a combination-ticket.1)The Mill valley, consisting of different kinds of watermills and you may visit it by guided tours only, that will include demonstrations of the mills working like in the old days.2)The wooden village is the oldest part of the museum, down in the village and it includes a great church, cemetery, a post-office, grocery, merry-go-round, beehives etc.3)The Vallachian village up on a hill nearby, including many farmhouses, horses, sheep, geese etc. Also the town of Roznov is nice for a little walk.Please...

Valaske Mezirci - east of Olomouc

by globetrott

Valaske Mezirci / Walachisch - Meseritsch is a nice small town in the east of Czechia, not far from Roznov pod Radhostem. My favorite part was the lovely main square with the townhall, dating back to 1677 and the former pharmacy "U cerveho orla" / red eagle - it is a restaurant today and the best is the facade. The castle of Valaske Mezirci dates back to 1538 and was sold to the Czech state in 1854 by the Kinsky family. The castle became then the only prison for women of the Austrian empire .

Kromeritz

by globetrott

Kromeriz is another interesting place, when you start to explore the east of Czechia. There is a big castle with a really excellent interior, BUT unfortunately Photography is forbidden inside, and only guided tours are available !Around the castle is a great park with a baroque maze and even a small zoo .Don't miss the big townsquare with plenty of great baroque buildings and churches. You might need half a day in order to explore the most important sights of Kromeritz.
