If you visit the Silkeborg Museum, you may also have time to stop at the Silkeborg Tourist Office which is very close to the museum and the lake as well. The tourist office is a good place to get information, brochures, maps, postcards and the like. The tourist office is located in a building that has some history of its own. It was built in 1921 for bank manager, Arnold Knap, as his private home. The home was designed by local architect Anton Rosen who also designed several other distinctive buildings around Silkeborg. When Mr. Knap owned it, it was a grand mansion of sorts with large rooms, elegant furnishings and two rooms for two live-in maids. Subsequently, in 1956 the building changed from being a private home to a maternity home, turned into a "houseshare", and finally was sold to the town of Silkeborg. After some minor renovations, in 1996 the once elegant home became what it is today, a tourist information office and probably the most elegant architectural one you'll see. Leave a Comment

by elsebeth well go to the obvious places like the old town , and Moesgaard strand(beach) but also to the beach ..I was at a place called Den permanente which is a place for people who wants privacy and its kinda some shacks of wood. I went there one night with some friends of mine and we had a small fire there and made food there .it was dark but so cozy since we had a guitar and sang songs and drank some beers Leave a Comment

by Uvic Whilst walking through a rural town i came across a house that exemplified Danish style and architecture in the late 19th century. This home was not built for style but rather due to lack of materials. Because wood is scarce in Danmark filling needed to be used to fill in the gaps between. The straw roof is also typical of Scandanavian countries Leave a Comment

by Uvic A picture of the beach during the summer time. This is the same location where the North and the Baltic oceans meet. Leave a Comment

Aarhus is one of the largest cities of Denmark. It is quite expensive if you plan to stay in hotels. Try hitting the hostels there. Bars, night clubs, restaurants and most of the fun places including Tivoli can be considered expensive. The prices at the bars are the worst. and the prices are for only 2 cl of beverages, as opposed to the usual 5 cl pricing system of USA People are mostly very friendly, even to an extent to offer their living room for a night if they find you trustable of course. Best way to see the town is by walking, as my usual preferred method. Aarhus Sporveje is the local transportation company, and if you get a multiride ticket you wont regret it. Very punctual transportation. YOu can literally adjust your clock by the bus arrivals if you have a time table. Be aware that the shops close very early compared to many mediterranean countries. If you have to buy something from any shop buy it before 4 pm... If you plan to swim in Aarhus, it seems that you usually don't need a swimsuit, the tops for the girls at least... Also keep in mind that the nordic see is very very very cold even in July. My knee was the furthest I could get into the water. Medical expenses can be huge. Beware. There is FALCK to help you all the time, but as it writes on the catalogue for Aarhus, they will charge you, of course... I wish to go back there and would love to stay longer. If you are not riding a bicycle, be careful about cyclists, as they tend to ride fast on the special bicycle routes.
Birds seem to prefer walking around instead of flying for some ununderstood reason.. I am serious. I have never seen so many birds walking around.. Try to hit Aarhus during the jazz festival usually held during july. That is if youd like to listen to jazz music. Many street parades are held, and I have enjoyed sipping my beer, it was allowed to drink at the street then, and just following the parades with many people around. Leave a Comment

Go to Moesgård Museum in the southern suburb of Højberg. It is a viking museum with lots of grounds for a picnic or a beautiful stroll down to the beach. The museum also runs a viking festival in July where people ride Icelandic horses in viking wear and sell goods and food from viking tents. Leave a Comment
