Close to Arhus is the royal palace, where the family of the Danish Queen normally spends the summertime. For that reason you may often see the royal danish yacht at a seperate quai in the port of Arhus, guarded by 2 soldiers day and night. You may approach the ship a bit anyway and take some pictures. It is a pity,my pics are quite dark, these pics are slides and lost a lot of their quality , when I scaned them.
You may see the crown anyway in the forward-part of the ship.
The royal yacht was built in 1931 and has a length of 78,4 meters, 10,40 meters wide and has 1238 GRT the range is 3600 nautical miles. Top-speed is 13,5 knots.

This small river-canal ends in the port of Arhus and along of it you may see plenty of great (and expensive) shops, cafes and restaurants. This is the favorite boulevard for the local people and it is also beautifully lighted at night. Live music-performances will take place there in summertime and you may listen to street musicians at many places along the canal. Don't miss this great area !!

There is a small funfair in Aarhus called Tivoli Friheden. It has nice suroundings, nice gardens, good restaurants and coffee shops and of course lots of rides such as a roller coaster and a ghost train!
It is worth a visit. A small copy of Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen.
It is only open during the summer May to September. From 11.00 hours until 20.00. (July 11.00 - 22.00).

Have a pint in the Beer Cellar and enjoy a cup of coffee with cake in the tea garden.

AROS Modern art Museum in Aarhus.
If you would like to see the works of Danish Painters you should visit that floor which has been titled Golden Age. But if you like to see something modern - REALLY modern - you should visit "Art from 1980 to ..." which includes many kinds of installations. But perhaps the greatest piece of art is the building itself: a massive square, seemingly floating on light at night, but cut through inside by a Guggenheimesque (New York-style) Grand Canyon of airy, swirling balconies and passageways. See it.
Entrance fee for Adult is around 12 $ (70 DK)

This place shouldn't be confused with the ARoS Art Museum. It is basically a collective, housing a section of the Danish Poster Museum, a cafe and various exhibition spaces with ever changing exhibits.
This makes a worthwhile visit for those of you who just have to tick off the local museums and there can be some good surprises. There is also an area of the coffee shop housing postcards and some cool posters for sale, just in case you like your souveniring to be that little bit more arty and cultured.
Tickets cost 30kr and 15kr for full and student tickets.

This museum is staged in the building used by the German forces during the occupation of Aarhus 1940 to 1945. As well as wandering through rooms used to keep prisoners, there is a very informative exhibition taking you through occupation, resistance and eventual liberation.
Some parts are in Danish but much of it also has English text.
It's not actually the most interesting or modern exhibit you'll see, or certainly if you already know something about the war years in Europe. But a solid exhibition overall and reminder that this was rather a brave little nation during World War II - for example most of the Jewish population of the country was evacuated secretly to Sweden by boat in the course of just one night. I've always been rather impressed by that.
The day we were there, the local socialist party were protesting against the current occupation of Iraq, which seemed rather apt.
