The old windmill of Ebeltoft is in the backside of the village and I only saw the silhouette of the windmill-wings and so I started to search for it. The windmill is privately owned and not open to the public, but it always makes me happy to see such a great sight of the good old times.

Radhus Kroen is the name of another restaurant and its name is a bit confusing, because you might expect it to be close to the townhall, but in fact it is in quite a distance, but still in the pedestrian area of the old town.
This building is quite large with a very romantic innercourt that has a garden-restaurant as well, but also here: nobody sitting there on a warm evening at the end of May.

The old townhall is without doubt the most beautiful building in Ebeltoft and you will find it in the centre of the old village.Det gamle Radhus is also called "The smallest townhall on earth"
There is a small museum inside nowadays and that museum is free of charge and open daily from 11.00am till 03.00pm.
Ebeltoft has the town-rights now since more than 700 years, but the village is much older than that.

When you are walking through the old part of Ebeltoft you will come to many house-gates that are standing open and according to my experience it is mostly accepted that tourists come and take a look inside, especially when the building looks interesting and is well restored. Danish people are mostly very proud of the old houses of their heritage and love to show them to tourists. You will soon find out, where such sightseeing is possible and where not !

The old Kro (Inn) of Ebeltoft is next to the old townhall and it is a lovely halftimbered house with a great garden-restaurant, just take a look at my extra photos as well.
Eating out in a restaurant is always quite expensive in Danmark and so you find such a place mostly empty like here on a warm and sunny evening around 06.00pm in May.

Fyrskib XXI is an old fireship ( a fireship is a swimming lighttower) that was transferred into a cafe and you will find it not far from the Fregatten Jylland, in the part of the port, that is open to the public all day and night. I have'nt been inside the cafe, because they obviously are closing early or maybe May is out of season there, so the cafe was closed already at 06.00pm, when I got there.

Fregatten Jylland is a historical wooden battleship, the largest of its kind that is still existing and this battleship was used by the danish troops in a seabattle at Helgoland in the danisch-german war of 1864.
The ship was restored and transferred into a museum with soldiers and sailors made of wax, showing the tourists the life onboard of such a battleship.

On the townsquare of Ebeltoft you will find a lot of great halftimbered houses and in front of the old townhall / Det gamle Radhus you will also find 2 old cannons.
Most of the streets in the old part of Ebeltoft are paved by quite a "rough" kind of cobbled stones and at the end of such a sight-seeingday you will feel your feet aching terribly, but I have to admit, it is always nice to LOOK at such a pavement !

A little north of Ebeltoft, you’ll find the Ree Park – Ebeltoft Safari which is an animal park with more than 100 animals from all over the World. Cheetahs, buffalos, monkeys, zebras, lamas, antelopes, white wolfs, black bears – and many more…
You can walk around the park like in a normal zoo and watch the animals, and especially the very long boardwalk above the animals was impressing and interesting. However, I paid a little extra to join a Land Rover Safari and this was the part I enjoyed most. The jeep tour took me around the huge safari park and gave me a chance to see the animals at very close range. You are driving among the animals and especially the giraffes were very curious to see what was going on. This is a must if you visit the park.
During the day you can also watch the animals being fed, watch a birds-of-prey show, have a ride on a pony or play around in the playground.

a lovely town & "the smallest townhall on earth"

Ebeltoft is a great halfday-trip from Arhus, it has "the smallest townhall on earth", some really great halftimbered houses and the Fregatte Jylland, a wooden battleship of 1864

A seaside town ignored by time

Ebeltoft is a quiet little village on the Baltic. Better yet it is close to the rolling hills of the Mols peninsula, dotted with 16th century churches and half-timbered homes with thatched roofs. It...

Centuries old houses, and town structure are preserved in this lovely Danish city. A pretty large Old town square with all those functioning old butiks give you a feel of a festive museum.
