Impossible to miss, the windmill stands right by the main road.
It seems that it may be visited, but we didn't enter - windmills used to be common in my home town, and some are still working, as you may see in my Turquel's page.
Anyway, this time my attention was also caught by a very old one (it seems) also by the main road.
OK, so you might not think windmills are that much fun but here you can for a small sum of money climb all the way to its top - a bit scary on a really windy day! :)The mill gives enough electricity to support the surrounding houses since 1980 and when you have seen enough, you are sure to find a fun souvenir in the adjacent shop where they work various types of local Bornholm bedrock into all sorts of jewellery and ornaments.
The most famous smokery in the village is just along the main road and therefore visited by coaches throughout the day. However, when it's not, it is a very quiet place where you can chat with the staff and enjoy a great variety of fish (or grilled chicken for those in a company who do not eat fish at all) in the shop restaurant or in the yard. If you chose to sit inside, you are very close to the huge ovens themselves and get great insight into an important Bornholm industry and tradition. Have a look at their webpage!
Favorite Dish: A very local speciality: Fried herring and onions with mustard and rye bread. With a cool beer of course :)
The inland buses between Rønne and Svaneke via Aakirkeby stop in Aarsdale so it is fairly easy to get here without a car.
