The Great Belt bridge is an enormous construction connecting Fyn (Funen) with Sjælland (Zealand). It spans 18 km's, and is actually composed of two seperate bridges. The East-brigde being a road suspension bridge with a free span of over 1600 meters, making it the second longest suspended bridge in the world.

If you travel across Denmark you will most likely travel on the bridge (partly tunnel if you travel by train).

Prices for travelling across the bridge in a car are approx 200 DKr.

Nyborg ramparts

In the 16th century, Christian III extended the fortifications at Nyborg castle by the building of ramparts around the castle. These ramparts were strategically 'forward-placed' defense structures containing cannons to control big areas of surrounding land.
Now the ramparts provide a nice place for a walk.
An interesting part of the fortifications is the town gate. This gate was built in 1666 and was by then the only entrance to Nyborg. It was closed at 10 pm and 5 minutes before that, a special bell at Our Lady Church would ring to indicate the closing of the gate. This bell is still rung each day.

Nyborg castle was built in late 10th century and first mentioned in 1193 when Knud the 6th held a meeting there. The castle that is left now is only a part of the initial castle, whcih consisted of four wings and a ring wall. Now only the western wing, and the tower of the eastern wing have remained.
Inside the castle, there is a museum, explaining about the history and purpose of the castle.

Our lady's church in Nyborg was built in the 14th century and inside are a very nice wooden baptist font and the supposedly largest church chandelier of Denmark.
